• Anonymous Jan 27, 2010

My wifi does usually reuire a password but this is not he problem. The ipod touch is showing that it is connected to the wifi. However, when tring to coneect to such as you-tube or the aps store it simply states "cannot connect Invalid argument".
I have tried with success to connect to other friends wi fi with no problems.
I had no issues with the ipod touch for the first 6 months or so & have made no changes to any setting or the Belkin router.

Could you explain further what you mean by "log on"? If this is when you select a network from the "WiFi Networks" menu on the Settings app, does your WiFi network require a password?

Actually I had the same problem too, with both my iPod Touch and my wife's. I rebooted both my modem and my router, and that fixed the problem. Routers can get into these strange internal states sometimes, and rebooting them usually fixes the problem.

How can i update my iPod model # MC086LL

The iPod touch is not only a music player, but also your gateway to the world via the Internet. In order to connect to the iTunes music store and use the email and web-browsing features of your iPod touch, you must first connect to a wireless network.

Touch the "Settings" icon on the home screen of the iPod touch. The iPod does not require you to press down very hard to select an icon. Using your finger, lightly tap the application you want to activate it. Choose the Wi-Fi setting and turn it on. You may need to wait a moment while the device locates available networks. Select the wireless network you want to connect to. You may have more than one option based on your location. If you are prompted for a password, enter it and touch "Join." Opt to have your iPod alert you when there is a new network you can join. This can be useful if you are no longer in range of a network you have previously used. To receive these messages, turn on the "Ask to Join Networks" feature. Tell the iPod touch to "forget" a wireless network that you no longer want to use, so it will not automatically try to connect you. Under the Wi-Fi settings, tap the ">" button next to the network you want to delete and then touch "Forget this network." Expect that some wireless networks detected by your iPod touch will ask you to sign up for a fee-based service. If this is acceptable to you, open up the Safari application from the home screen. You will be taken to a website that explains the terms of service and accepts credit card payments for wireless Internet access.
When the iPod touch was introduced in 2007, it quickly became one of the best-selling portable music players on the market. What separated the iPod touch from its competitors was its ability to access the Internet through Wi-Fi networks. If you're ready to surf the web and send e-mail with your new iPod touch, it's easy to get connected. Just a few taps, and you'll be on your way.

Tap the "Settings" icon on your iPod touch's home screen. Tap the arrow on the far right of the "Wi-Fi" bar on the "Settings" screen. Move the slider on the "Wi-Fi" bar to the "On" position. Move the slider on the "Ask to Join Networks" bar to the "On" position if you wish to be notified before your iPod touch connects to a new network. Moving the slider to the "Off" position means you must select a Wi-Fi network manually before your iPod touch will connect. Press the "Home" button to return to your iPod touch's home screen. You will see the Wi-Fi icon appear in the top left corner of your screen with up to four bars illuminated to indicate that Wi-Fi is available and to show its signal strength. iPod touch Support

How do I make my iPod Touch Connect to an Unsecure Network

Unsecured wireless Internet networks are available in many cafes and public spaces. An unsecured network is a wireless Internet connection that does not require a password. Use your iPod Touch Wi-Fi capability to connect to these networks and the Internet. Although excellent for surfing and email, avoid carrying out banking or financial information into an unsecured network, because there is a possibility that the signal is intercepted.

1. Open the Settings menu of your iPod Touch. It is the gray gear icon on the home screen.

2. Tap "WiFi" and move it to "On" if needed. If your Wi-Fi is already activated, you will see a pop-up asking if you have the unsecured network. Some companies, like Starbucks, have a "Log In" screen appears automatically.

3. Click "Yes" or "Join" for the network to automatically connect when prompted. The text may vary depending on the company, and you may need to read and agree to the terms and conditions statement. If no login screen appears, wait until you play for scanning available Wi-Fi signals. The list is displayed.

4. Select the network name you want to join the list. An unsecured network has a password, so you will not be asked to give.

5. Click on "automatic network in the future" when asked if you want to do.

6. Wait until the light of the Wi-Fi indicator in the upper left corner of the touch. This indicates that you are online and ready to ride.
Ipod wi fi conection

Wi-Fi Functionality
  1. Connects over the last Wi-Fi network you used that's available.
  2. If no Wi-Fi networks you've used are available, iPod touch will scan for Wi-Fi networks and show a list of Wi-Fi networks in range. Tap a network and, if necessary, enter the password to join. Networks that require a password show a lock icon (307189_1.jpg) next to them.
  3. Option to manually enter your Wi-Fi network name/SSID (if the Wi-Fi network is configured not to broadcast or be displayed to the public). If necessary, enter the password to join.
When iPod touch is connected to a Wi-Fi network, the Wi-Fi icon (307189_2.jpg) in the status bar at the top of the screen shows connection strength. The more bars you see, the stronger the connection.
Wi-Fi Settings
  1. Turn Wi-Fi on or off.
Choose Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi on or off.
  2. Set iPod touch to ask if you want to join a new Wi-Fi network.
When you are trying to access the Internet, by using Safari or YouTube for example, and you are not in range of a Wi-Fi network you have previously used, this option tells iPod touch to look for another network. iPod touch will display a list of all available Wi-Fi networks that you can choose from. Networks that require a password appear with a lock icon (307189_1.jpg).

If "Ask to Join Networks" is turned off, you must manually join a network to connect to the Internet when a previously used network is unavailable.

Choose Wi-Fi and turn "Ask to Join Networks" on or off. If you turn "Ask to Join Networks" off, you must join new networks manually.
  3. Join a Wi-Fi network manually.
Choose Wi-Fi, wait a moment as iPod touch detects networks in range, then choose a network. If necessary, enter a password and tap Join. Networks that require a password appear with a lock icon.
  4. Make iPod touch forget a network, so that the device doesn't join it automatically. Choose Wi-Fi and tap the arrow (307189_3.jpg) next to a network you've joined before. Then tap "Forget this Network."
  5. Connect to a closed Wi-Fi network (an available Wi-Fi network that isn't shown in the list of scanned networks).
Choose Wi-Fi, then tap Other and enter the network name. If the network requires a password, choose Security, tap the type of security the network uses, and enter the password. You must already know the network name, password, and security type to connect to a closed network. Some Wi-Fi networks may require you to enter or adjust additional settings, such as a client ID or static IP address. Ask the network administrator which settings to use.
  6. Adjust settings to connect to a Wi-Fi network
Choose Wi-Fi, then tap the arrow (307189_3.jpg) next to a network.

To watch videos online from Youtube from you iPod Touch, you must be connected to an active internet connection via wi-fi.
To connect to a wi-fi access hotspot, Go to Settings>Wi-Fi. Now, look under Choose a Network':
