Your IP address is determined by your Internet Service Provider. If you also have a wireless Router though, IT will provide additional IP addresses. The address to communicate with your router is usually (but not necessary) http://192.168.1.1 and is provided for you in the manual that came with your router. Router setup is via login, to the same IP address, using the User Name and Password found in the manual.

Get the wifi signal detected by powering the wifi fro the laptopo

get connected to it (wifi)

go to>start>run>white cmd> write ipconfig/all>press enter

you will get the ip addresses of the wi fi router

give your laptop wifi card the ip address in the wifi router sequence

e.g. if wifi addresses:193.168.1.1

then your nonebook ip may be193.168.1.2

etc

How to connect my self and make my IP address ?

you can set your laptop up to detect ip address automatically in its network settings. if you had provided the operating system it would have helped to narrow down how to do this. If you had told us how you plan to connect to the router this also would have been helpful. Are you connecting via blue cat5 ethernet cable or via wireless. If it is wireless your laptop should detect the wireless network and you can ask it to connect to it. If the wireless link is encrypted you need to log into the router via ethernet cable and look for the securirty settings on the wireless and find out what the encryption code is. Usually the router will use what is called an internal IP address range. the subnet is usually class c being 255.255.255.0 and the ip address default gateway IP address is usually either 10.0.0.1 or 198.168.0.1 and this can be put into the browser to log into the router. When you set the laptop to automatically obtain the IP address the Wireless Router has a DHCP server that manages the leases of IP addresses to computers connected to it. However if you are connecting the Wireless Router into an existing network with another router you will need to set the IP address to the next IP address eg 10.0.0.1 on existing router make second router 10.0.0.2> if you have a DCHP server on the wireless turn it off if you have a DCHP server on the existing router otherwise you have confusion as to which DHCP server to listen too on your network.Make sure the DHCP router does not allocate at least the first 10 addresses eg 10.0.0.1 to 10.0.0.10 to allow for the routers and printers on your network that may need dedicated IP addresses (Static IP addresses)

I purchased a wre54g range expander and have tried everything but it doesnt work

Who is the manufacturer of your wireless router?
check the IP address of your router.
connect the computer to the router and check the Ip address of the computer and the default gateway number. Default gateway is the IP address of your router. suppose the default gateway is 192.168.1.1. then open the set up page of the router . check the wireless settings of the router SSID ,channel and the security settings. Do not change the settings on the router.
If you are using WPA2 security settings them that will network on the WRE54G.
Now your range expander and the router IP addresses should be in the same range. Suppose you router IP address is 192.168.x.y and the IP address of the WRE54G is by default 192.168.1.240.
Now the x in the router IP address should be 1.
If it is, then connect the WRE to the router and open the set up page of WRE. change the wireless settigns on the WRE and power cycle the WRE and the router.
It should work

Add a Linksys 2.4 ghz range expander

Hello,

You can connect your expander to your PC via ethernet cable and then assign a static IP address on your PC.

To assign a static IP address, just double-click on the monitor icon on the lower right hand corner of your PC and then view status and go to properties. Look for TCP/IP v4 and click properties.

Select use the following IP address:

192.168.1.2
255.255.255.0

and then click OK.

After successfully assigning an IP address to your PC, let's test the connectivity by going to command prompt.

Go to Start>Run>and then type cmd and hit Enter.
Once you're on the black screen type ping 192.168.1.240.
If you get replies then your good to go...

Let's now access the Web UI of the you Wireless expander.
Open a browser and then type on the address bar 192.168.1.240 and then hit enter.

It will prompt you with WRE54G's username and password. Just type the password to login to the Web UI. The default password is admin.

Once your on the Setup page, you have to configure your settings exactly the same as your wireless router (e.g. wireless security, IP address range) except for the SSID. You may want to change the SSID on your WRE54G for you to easily identify where your wireless computer is connected.

You can leave the WRE54G's IP address to 192.168.1.240 if your wireless router's IP address is on the same range like 192.168.1.x

Then on the Gateway address type your router's IP address. If you're also using Linksys the default IP address usually is 192.168.1.1

Then you can configure your wireless settings same as your router. After that, same the settings and see if the light on the WRE54G becomes BLUE. If yes, then you're good to go! You can unplug the PC from the WRE54G and then set your PC's IP address back to Obtain an IP Address Automatically. See static IP address procedure above.

Site survey failed

When running the setup CD, I get a Site Survey failed. Anyone have any ideas?

I can help you configure your expander manually instead of using the CD.

You can connect your expander to your PC via ethernet cable and then assign a static IP address on your PC.

I can not connect to the local area connection.

1. check your network adapter TCP/IP settings if its set into "Obtain as IP address Automatically".
2. if the settings is set as Automatic and your not getting IP address then select "Use the following IP Address"
3. use IP address followed to your router address like if192.168.0.1 in router type 192.168.0.2 or192.168.0.3 justcheck the next address IP in your network.
4. after typing subnet IP will automatically set
5. type the router IP address as your default gateway
6. click OK to save your new settings

Wireless router won't connect to my laptop

1. check your network adapter TCP/IP settings if its set into "Obtain as IP address Automatically".
2. if the settings is set as Automatic and your not getting IP address then select "Use the following IP Address"

Home > Wireless

Host Name-
The Host Name is optional but may be required by some ISPs. The default host name is the device name of the Router and may be changed.
MAC Address-
The default MAC Address is set to the WAN’s physical interface MAC address on the Broadband Router. It is not recommended that you change the default MAC address unless required by your ISP.
Clone
MAC Address-
The default MAC address is set to the WAN’s physical interface MAC address on the Broadband Router. You can use the "Clone MAC Address" button to copy the MAC address of the Ethernet Card installed by your ISP and replace the WAN MAC address with the MAC address of the router. Setting up a Wireless Infrastructure Network

Please remember that D-Link AirPlus G wireless devices are pre-configured to connect together, right out of the box, with their default settings.For a typical wireless setup at home (as shown above), please do the following:
1) You will need broadband Internet access (a Cable or DSL-subscriber line into
your home or office)
2) Consult with your Cable or DSL provider for proper installation of the modem
3) Connect the Cable or DSL modem to the DI-524 Wireless Broadband Router
(see the printed Quick Installation Guide included with your router.)
4) If you are connecting a desktop computer to your network, install the D-Link AirPlus G DWL-G510 wireless PCI adapter into an available PCI slot on your desktop computer. You may also install the DWL-G520, or the DWL-520. (See the printed Quick Installation Guide included with the network adapter.)
5) Install the D-Link DWL-G630 wireless Cardbus adapter into a laptop computer.
(See the printed Quick Installation Guide included with the DWL-G630.)
6) Install the D-Link DFE-530TX+ adapter into a desktop computer. The four Ethernet LAN ports of the DI-524 are Auto MDI/MDIX and will work with both Straight-Through and Cross-Over cable. (See the printed Quick Installation Guide included with the DFE-530TX+.)

Using the Configuration Menu

Whenever you want to configure your network or the
DI-524, you can access the Configuration Menu by
opening the web-browser and typing in the IP Address
of the DI-524. The DI-524 default IP Address is shown
bellow:
-Open the web browser
-Type in the IP Address of
the Router (http://192.168.0.1)

Choose PPPoE (Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet) if your ISP uses a PPPoE connection. Your ISP will provide you with a username and password. This option is typically used for DSL services. Select Dynamic PPPoE to obtain an IP address automatically for your PPPoE connection. Select Static PPPoE to use a static IP address for your PPPoeE connection.

PPPoE- Choose this option if your ISP uses PPPoE. (Most DSL users will select this option.)

Dynamic PPPoE- receive an IP Address automatically from your ISP.

Static PPPoE-you have an assigned (static) IP Address.

User Name- Your PPPoE username provided by your ISP.

Retype Password- Re-enter the PPPoE password

Service Name- Enter the Service Name provided by your ISP (optional).

IP Address- This option is only available for Static PPPoE. Enter the static IP Address for the PPPoE connection.

Primary DNS Address- Primary DNS IP address provided by our ISP

Secondary DNS Address- This option is only available for Static PPPoE. Enter the static IP Address for the PPPoE connection.

Maximum Idle Time- Enter a maximum idle time during which Internet connection is maintained during inactivity. To diable this feature, enable Autoreconnect.

MTU- Maximum Transmission Unit-1492 is the default setting-you may need to change the MTU for optimal performance with your specific ISP.

Auto-reconnect- If enabled, the DI-524 will automatically connect to your ISP after your system is restarted or if the PPPoE connection is dropped.

LAN is short for Local Area Network. This is considered your internal network. These are the IP settings of the LAN interface for the DI-524. These settings may be referred to as Private settings. You may change the LAN IP address if needed. The LAN IP address is private to your internal network and cannot be seen on the Internet.

IP Address- The IP address of the LAN interface. The default IP address is: 192.168.0.1.

Subnet Mask- The subnet mask of the LAN interface. The default subnet mask is 255.255.255.0.

Local Domain- This field is optional. Enter in the local domain name.

DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Control Protocol. The DI-524 has a built-in DHCP server.
The DHCP Server will automatically assign an IP address to the computers on the LAN/
private network. Be sure to set your computers to be DHCP clients by setting their TCP/
IP settings to “Obtain an IP Address Automatically.” When you turn your computers on,
they will automatically load the proper TCP/IP settings provided by the DI-524. The
DHCP Server will automatically allocate an unused IP address from the IP address pool
to the requesting computer. You must specify the starting and ending address of the IP
address pool.

DHCP Server- Select Enabled or Disabled. The default setting is Enabled.
Starting
IP Address- The starting IP address for the DHCP server’s IP assignment
Ending
IP Address- The ending IP address for the DHCP server’s IP assignment
Lease Time- The length of time for the IP lease. Enter the Lease time. The
default setting is one hour
