MoBo Replacement Installed new mother board (PC Chips A33G) now XP will not boot. I've reinstalled the HDD back onto old mother board and system starts fine. What doI do? I was told that if I run the motherboard driver disk while hooked to oldboard it might solve the boot problem on the new board. Is this True? Anotherone told me to start system on old board and change IDE controller to Microsoftstandard dual ide controller.And if this will fix it, How do I change thecontroller? I am not sure what to do next, Please Help!! Thank You Lloyd

I have tried all that. The BIOS sees the hard drive fine, but it will only boot as far as the window that has the selections to Start windows normally,start windows last known good config.,or start in safe mode. From here it just tries to reboot over and over but never all the way to windows.

First let me say I"m thankful for any help anyone can give.
In my first post I wrote that someone told me I could hook everything to old mobo and change the IDE controller to Microsoft standard dual ide controller. And if this will fix it,
How do I change the controller? It is running an Intel IDE controller I am not sure what to do next. Can I Roll back that controller, or do I have to delete the controller? Please
Help!! It was hinted that if I change the controller back to microsoft standard controller, that the O.S. will recognize the new mobo and everything will work fine.
P.S. I have tried everything you guys have suggested and then some and I am very grateful for the help. The only thing I got to work was to Reload O.S. But I want to keep HDD just like it was, to many things to load or change. Does anybody know if changing controller will work and is so , How do I change it???????

Did you go into the new bios and check to make sure you have the hard drive setting on auto, then check your boot order that the drive is first to boot., if that doesnt work create a floppy boot disk (google it) and see if you see the hard drive when you do that.

have you boot in to safe mode see if it start there?
if it still doesn't boot into safe mode then i would remove all extra cards on the mother board example sound cards, lan cards, video card (if the mother board had internal video), if your mother board has built in anything disable it in bios. what it's trying to do is discover new hardware and it's having a confilt with your old hardware that currently configured, you might want to install fresh.

if the controller is part of the mother board then you have to have the drivers that it installs, never heard of using roll back to ms drivers,

Installed new mother board to hp dv4000 laptop all went well but after 10 min ish the computer freezes and has to be forced to shut down like it is getting hot and will not reboot with the display working...

is that an original mobo from the manufacturer? if not or yes i think one of the chips might be getting burnt due to a short circuit...claim a warranty repair or replacement... it might be one of the voltage controller chips or capacitors that was burnt... might b a dust issue too

If both motherboards are LGA775 socket, then the next concern is whether or not the case is capable of having the new motherboard installed into it. Disconnect all power cables to all dv drives or cd drives and hard drives. Disconnect all ribbons from drives to the mother board. If you can get to all of the screws that hold the motherboard into the case, you get away without removing drives. Once you've got the motherboard then you can disconnect the power cable from the motherboard. Remove the memory chips, disconnect the sound cable from the old motherboard. install the memory chips onto the new mobo, Connect the power cable to the new mobo, then install the new mobo into the case. Replace the ribbons from the drives to the mobo, replace the power cables to the drives and reinstall the sound cable to the cd or dv drive. You should be done now.

I have a gigbyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P mother board that when I try to install XP on a new Seagate 1TB Barracuda HDD, that it won't recognize during the install process

If your hdd is sata and you have an old mobo , windows xp (onlycvista will) will not recognize it. Integrate sata in xp (use nliteand goolgle how to) or use the flloopy disk to run sata driver

If you have a SATA hard drive your windows disk needs SATA drivers on it.
Download Driverspack from this site
http://driverpacks.net/DriverPacks/
Mass storage one
then copy windows CD to hard drive and use "Nlite" to install driverpack into it then burn windows to new CD and try again.
This should solve your problem
