your phone operates on propreitory software of samsung, I think that may not support e-book reading, but why can't you try the java e-book reading softwares which are available for free in the internet...

You havent said what laptop make or model you have so i will post a example for you

type in your make model and operating system then search for your manual
you will need adobe reader to read it and make sure to save it to your desktop or pendrive so that you can always go back to it when needed

The only way to sync is if you have the sd card in,and you can only sync the sd card, if you did not have verizon,you could use motorola phone tools and sync everything, but verizon turned off transfer
in your phone because there thieves, but if you learn how to hack a razor you can use moto phone tools.

you need to take the phones and have the flexcables replaced on the phone, so take them to a mobile service center and have them fix .

Try the Samsung Duo of Tata Indicom, Its a good phone and atlest its not made in China, has some dependabitily.
