Compressor will not get started. It clicks or just does not start

Compressor will not get started. It clicks or just doesn't come on. Pushing the relay in gets the compressor to go on but when it (the relay switch) is released the compressor stops. This sounds like the capacitor is bad. IUs that the situation.

No that is not the solution, it the capacitor were bad, then it wouldn't start manually.

You need to be looking elsewhere. The problem may be in the refrigerant level. Those units are supposed to have pressure switches.

Check elsewhere such as pressure switches and make sure the thermostat is working properly.

Go to the thermostat and jump out R to Y. If the unit comes on, your thermostat is the problem.

GE Profile - model PDS20SBSALSS - constant clicking noise

The clicking is the compressor trying to start. If the compressor is extremely hot, try allowing it to cool. The condenser fan should run even if the compressor is out on overload; that may be the cause of the compressor failure. Check the supply to the fan and replace it if it doesn't run.If the compressor has been overheating for some time, it may be damaged and also need replacing.

It keeps clicking trying to start, what might be the problem?

The clicking could be the start relay. If the start relay is bad, the compressor will not start and you will hear a clicking noise in 2-5 minute intervals. The clicking noise is the overload cutting the compressor off when it overheats from trying to start with a bad start relay. To find out if this is bad first unplug the refrigerator. Remove the lower rear cover from your refrigerator. Then take the cover off that is on the side of the compressor, you will see wires going to this. Now you should be able to see the start relay plugged on to the side of the compressor and unplug it. Now the best way to tell if it

If it rattles, it’s bad and needs to be replaced. If not, most of the time it’s ok. But rather than saying the compressors bad, you might want to replace it anyways because it don’t cost much in most cases (less than $25). If you replace it and it doesn’t work then the compressor is bad and you’ll need you call a repairman. (Note that compressors are very costly and are normally not worth fixing). Go to www.appliancehelponline.com/servicemanual.html and enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations. All parts come with installation instructions. Not all models are available.

Pulled it in doesn;t get cold it makes a clicking noise every mintue or two also what is red button for

I believe you need to have the compressor and compressor start relay, start capacitor and over load replaced. Always best to check windings in compressor before buying the parts and I will send you to a page that gives instructions and the first movie is the one that shows you how to test compressor windings. If you need help please let me know, Sea Breeze

Refridgerator compressor cycles on for 6 seconds then off for 1 minute

it sounds like a bad:
  • ·       start switch (on the side of the compressor) or
  • ·        compressor itself

the start switch clicks  off usually when the compressor is pulling too many amps or the compressor is overheating. if the compressor is not even running then its probably not overheating.
·                                 so either the compressor is pulling too many amps (bad compressor) or the start switch is bad and cannot handle the amps required to start the compressor.
