You will need a 19 mm wrench to fit the nut on the bracket that the idler (tensioner) pulley is attached to. Pull the wrench clockwise to release tension just enough to change the belt then slowly let tension on the belt. The 19 mm nut is just above the bolt that holds the idler pulley bracket on to the motor .

The problem is the rear motor mount is filled with hydraulic fluid that leaks onto the accessory drive belt. The motor mounts fail prematurely and the fluid makes the belt squeak. Toyota dealership I took my 2006 Corolla to replaced the motor mount and belt free of charge.

Check tension the drive belt(s) as slipping at low rev is a classic indication of this fault. In extreme conditions a rubber burning smell may be present. Replacement of drive belts is the 100% remedy and best option .

Replaciing serpentine belt on 2006 Toyota Corolla

You'll have to remove the engine cover under the bottom so you can position the new belt on the pulleys properly. Get a wrench or tensioner tool and turn the tensioner clockwise to relax the drive belt. Don't apply excessive force.

It's hard to draw a picture with words, but looking at the engine from the passenger side of the car, there are basically two top pulleys, two middle, and two bottom. The drive belt goes around the outside of the two top and two bottom, and on the inside of the two middle.

any repair shop will charge about .5 hours to replace. If your unsure about how to do it, don't. You will end up loosing more than your patience by trying it yourself
