Love my dragonfly, but I've got a new problem with the flame. It burns yellow and sooty. I cleaned the shaker jet and I'm getting a good steady fuel stream hitting the spreader cup.I'm using MSR superfuel and the DG shaker jet. I cleaned the flame adjuster. I put in new fuel line filter and fuel filters. Still runs poorly. Seems like it worked fine before a friend spilled soup into the shaker jet and put out the stove flame. Any ideas?

SOURCE: I used my MSR reactor

The nozzle on this and other canister stoves can clog. Check the manual to determine how to clean the nozzle.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: when changing the fuel jet

The shaker needle is inside of the shaker jet, and should be pointed up, towards the tiny hole in the shaker jet (when the the stove is set up to cook - right side up).

When the stove is cooking the needle is below the hole, and not doing anything. It is not even needed to cook.
The needle is in there so that when you carry the stove around, the stove eventually goes upside down and the needle continually pokes the jet clear. Or if it gets clogged when using, turn it upside down and shake it to do the same thing.

What color should the flame be on a propane fireplace insert---blue or yellow?

clean burn gas is a blue flame
it is achieved by using the correct jet size for the gas in use and by adjusting the air shroud around the jet opening
if you converted from natural gas to LPG and didn't change the jet size that is one reason
next there is a tin type shroud around the jet area that can be moved back or forward over the big hole that lets air to mix with the gas at the jet
the position of that shroud adjusts the air to gas ratio
If you are not sure of what I am talking about , talk with a gas fitter or have them do the job

Flame on main hob of range master 110 is yellow and smelly also black sooty deposit left on jets

Ream out all the orifices and air venturi holes on the burner, adjust the air-ahutter, the air-shutter is usually nearer the valve/knob than to the burner. Yellow flame is an imbalance of fuel to oxygen and is creating Carbon Monoxide and not burning cleanly... this is the same problem that can make a furnace deadly. Blue flame=neutral flame.

Front burner , yellow, flaring flames and sooty pans

Sounds like the front burner gas jet holes are either blocked in places or the gas regulation (air/gas) mix to that burner needs adjusting. Try removing the hub where the gas burns from and cleaning each hole with something like a paperclip and then blowing through it to expel any particals.

New cooktop ! long flame yellow tips black deposits on pans

This is probably the result of inefficient burning of gas resulting in sooty deposits being left on the base of saucepans etc. It may be that the gas jets are blocked with spilt material and need cleaning. Try removing the gas hub with the gas jet holes in and sliding a paperclip sized rod into each hole to dislodge any material. Blow in the holes afterwards to force any loose material out. If this fails you may need a gas fitter to adjust the gas mixture regulators.

Flame does not burn blue -- it is more yellow and sooty

From what you described, the burner needs to be removed and cleaned and the air shutter adjustment needs to be readjusted. After cleaning and replacing the burner, you can light the unit and then start adjusting the air shutter, until the flames are blue with yellow or orange tips.

Hope this helped you.

It has soot build up and doesnt get hot

the soot build up is evidence of another problem. Your fuel air ration is messed up. Is it possible you are at a higher altitude than the water heater was set for? When a water heater is installed at an altitude higher than 2,000' the manifold pressure on the gas valve has to be turned down. if that isn't done your wh will overfire and burn a rich sooty flame. You would expect to see a yellow flame rather than the ideal blue flame with yellow tips.

If this sounds like your problem then you need a proffessional to service the wh and reset the manifold pressure to the value in the owners manual for the appropriate altitude.

My surface burners are burning with a yellow flame. How do I adjust to get a blue flame. Model # FGGF3041KFC

King kooker will not burn a blue flame, only a big yellow sooty

You may need to resize the orifice, sounds to me like it is too big. If you have an adjustable orifice try tightening it down a quarter turn at a time till that flame turn pretty. Leave that shutter wide open till you start getting a blue flame. Make sure you have no cob webs blocking the orifice.Blow out and remove all rust from the burner.
