Yes you can, but most likely it will not work (you have to format it and install fresh copy of Windows (or Linux)).

there are software to get past the bios,but the easy way is to unplug it,take out the main battery..open up the case and find the internal battery.unplug it for about 10 minutes,your password will be gone.

Looking for part gateway p/n 5501545
No one seems to be selling that particular part anymore, which laptop do you have? The Gateway Solo 9300? You may have to try to find an upgrade that's compatible as far as the motherboard connection is concerned.
