We have a Kenmore Elite Trio refrigerator (purchased 1 1/2 yrs. ago) and were having problems with an error message on the water/ice dispenser and had service come out. January 2, 2008 a Sears serviceman came out and said we needed a controller part (would be in approx. 1 1/2 weeks). After he left that day everything stopped running and we were without a refrigerator for 1 1/2 weeks). The part came and a serviceman came out on January 14th to work on it. Everything seemed fine until we started getting these silver paint specs on our ice cubes. We thought maybe they would go away after a week or so. They still have not. We have no idea where they are coming from and what is causing this to happen, but we are not using our ice cubes because this cannot be good for our health. Any ideas?
Do you know exactly what part he changed? It sounds as though it was some sort of water flow regulator, or valve. The service person should have flushed the system prior to installing the part, and replaced the filter.
Without knowing exactly what he changed, it's hard to tell.
Ive heard horror stories where the techs replace ice maker units, and accidentally put the OLD water source filter on backwards instead of replacing the filter, and all of the contaminants end up in the new unit, and in the ice / cold water.
