HI, I have got a problem with my kawasaki ZR7 gearbox

HI, I have got a problem with my kawasaki ZR7 (2000) gearbox, when I started my bike this morning (tem is -1C) When I engaged to 1st gear the lever didn't spring back to it's position (it stayed on the bottom) so i had to pull it back myself. it seamed I have got the same problem with all 5 gears (lever doesn't spring back)
When I left bike for 7 hours outside garage I couldn't shift to any gear at all. So what do you thik? is there a problem with cold weather or I simply bent my shifting forks? Thank You, Ted

it sounds like you have a broken dog on 1st gear. (on sprocket inside gear box) gearbox needs stripping down and investigating.

SOURCE: Hi, my 1994 KX 250 will not engage 4th gear

The worn shift fork is the problem. Normally a shift fork will never show any wear. When a fork gets bent is when wear begins to show. If a good shift fork is set side by side with a bent fork it is very hard to see any difference. The bend is so slight that it is usually impossible to discern. Put in a new fork and the shifting problem is history.

Now would be a good time to install new crank bearings and new crank seals as well.

I`ve just changed the oil on my zr7 and there is a really strong smell of petrol in the oil any ideas why this is ???

The injectors are "leaking down" when the engine is off. This is putting raw fuel into the cylinders and it is leaking by the rings on the pistons into the oil. Since this dilutes the oil it can result in excess wear on the engine, replace the injectors soon!

Tappet noises

the noise from a worn camchain or faulty tensioner can be confused with valve clearance noise valves normally close the gaps as they wear and become quieter

ZR7-S wont start, battery is dead, i tried to jump it, when i had it hooked up the bike tried to turn over but would not start. any suggestions on what to look at for troubleshooting

Start by getting your self a manual, plenty for sale if you google for it and if you like to search hard you should find a freebie.

Now your problem. Start with the fuses, make sure they are all OK, move to the kill switch and make sure it is functioning. Your jump start may not have had enough juice to get it going. Get your self a new battery, nice clean terminals, clean and reset plugs, then start again. You will find it a breeze once you get the manual and wont know how you ever lived without it. :D Good luck,

How much slack should my zr7 chain have

u don't want to much play in it cause if it is to loose it will wear out the sprockets very fast but it will do the same thing if the chain is to tight it will wear out and stretch the chain out.

Wont run /idle

i'd start with removing the carbs and giving them a thorough cleaning as when bikes sit for so long, the carbs begin to get gummy/varnished from the old gas.

check for blocked holes in the pilot jet & main jet and look for "hard & dried up" gas in passages. be careful of the float bowl gasket as to not tear it or you will need a replacement.
