The alarm system somehow got activated , this is usually because the battery becomes discharged or disconnected try doing this: Remove the key from the ignition disconnect the negative battery terminal put the key back in and turn to ON exit the truck and leave door open reconnect the battery terminal get in and leave door open, if the alarm horn stays off it should start.
Hello. Welcome to FIxYa. Please allow me to assist you.
It appears that you might have a factory alarm system on this vehicle. Try cycling the key in the ignition from lock to on (not to start) 5 times. This procedure is built into the factory system if the battery in the remote goes dead, or if the remote gets lost.
One note, however. This procedure will only work on the Factory system. If you have an aftermarket system fitted, this trick will not work.
Same here... I have a 1998 Toyota Avalon XL. My car battery died. Replaced my car battery, but found out that when you unplug and plug the car battery with this car it engages in security mode (I have factory car alarm). This disables the engine and wont let you turn the ignition aka start the car engine until the remote (keyless entry) "UNLOCK" is applied. My remote is also lost so I cannot disable the alarm.
The only thing I can think of to do is unplug the battery again to disable everything (car alarms are annoying...) and call the dealer to pick the car up and perform the diagnosis. Most likely they will offer you another keyless (ugh... expensive) and/or you could ask to disable the factory car alarm.
I know thats not much help but it seems to be the only option from what I researched currently....
look in the fuse box and if iam not mistaken you can remove a fuse which will shut it up on these older vehicles,or re connect battery and try to open and close door three times then put the key in ignition quickmanother trick i done with my jag when the fob fell of the keyring ans i thought i had lost it was to put the key in ignition and turn ignition on and after third attempt to start the alarm stopped and car started after it recognised the chipp in the key
My KZTE Double Cab Bakkie (Utlity vehicle) comes with a Factory fitted central locking system
Yesterday the Remote would not un-lock the vehicle. The battery in the remote has been checked and seems ti be OK. I managed to open the vehicle (coat hanger through rubber on door method), when opening teh door the alarm went off (hooter etc). I placed the remote in the de-activating housing but it did not de-activate the alarm. I am now driving around with the flashers going for 20 seconds or so every time I open a door, but teh vehicle drives (I took out the hooter fuse to keep my sanity)..
factory alarms do not need to be reset.. if a problem cycle key in drivers door lock then unlock a few times// that manually sets and deactivates factory alarm
If the vehicle has a 'Factory' alarm system, try cycling the jkey in the ignition ON-OFF (not to start), 5 times. This will defeat the factory alarm. This method is used in case the remote trasmitter battery goes dead, or the transmitter is lost.
This only works on Toyota Factory security systems, however.
When alarm goes off,put key in ignition and turn, the alarm should go off and alarm should be reset.Or,remove positive battery cable, wait 10 minutes, reconnect, when you open door, alarm will sound, insert key in ignition and turn key and alarm should go off and alarm should be reset.
