How do i add headphones to my computer to get them to work? When I go to the sound icon there is a place for speakers (which I have hooked up), but I want to hookup headphones as well and i don't see an icon to do that and can't get them to work.

Try plugging a pair of headphones or earbuds or a different pair of known-working speakers (in places of the current speakers) - if you get sound with the "replacements", then there's a problem with the "current" speakers; otherwise, the problem is the sound on the unit.

Alternatively, plug the "current" speakers into a different (preferably, known-working) unit. If there's still no sound, then there's a problem with the speakers; otherwise, the problem is the sound on the original unit.

if your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to sound,video and game controllers you might see a yellow question mark? Right click to reinstall drivers
click start control panel sounds and audio,volume,advanced,speakers make sure you have selected the
(((appropriate speakers))) also audio you will find 3 drop down lists make sure you have the correct settings there

click start control panel sounds and audio devices you can adjust the volume there also select speaker volume you can change your settings there you can also tick in the box place icon in taskbar

have you tried this control panel sounds and audio,volume,advanced,speakers select the appropriate speakers from the drop down list or navigate to the device manager scroll to system devices + to expand,system speaker right click properties then select use this device (enable) also you might check
the speakers plug/outlet is usually at the back of the computer you will have to open up the computer to check the lead attached to the rear of the input plug make sure the connection is good
try cleaning your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is no MOISTURE in the air line specifically around the sound card and the CPU central processing unit dust causes static to build up in a computer

I finally solved this problem. Buy a CSR v4.0 enabled bluetooth dongle on ebay, plug it in to a usb slot. Right click the bluetooth icon in system tray and select "Settings" and tick "Allow bluetooth devices to find this computer." Then click "add a device", turn on your bluetooth headphones and the headphones will show up in bluetooth devices. Add the device, then right click your speaker icon in the system tray, select playback devices. From the menu, select the headphones and set them as default. I did this and they work perfectly. Furthermore when I turn the headphones off, the sound goes back to normal speakers - no other adjustments made. Turn the headphones on again and the sound defaults to them. I noticed on an earlier failed install of the headphones when they did appear in Devices and Printers that the drivers were CSR something enabled. I did try some cheaper dongles and the actual Plantronics USB dongle(expensive) to no avail. Get a CSR 4.0 enabled device. Mine cost 6.00AU total.

The first thing to do is to determine if it is the speakers or the computer that is having issues. Plug the speakers into an MP3 play, disk player or some other audio device that has a headphone jack and verify they work. If they do, then you need to determine why the computer is not sending sound to the jack. When you right click on the speaker icon, and select "Open volume mixer" there should be multiple sliders to turn up. Make sure the internal speaker/headphone jack volume is up (and mute not selected) as well as the "applications / windows sounds" volume. comment back to me if you require further assistance and if so, include the model computer and operating system in your comments. Go to the icon tray and double click the speaker icon. Have a look in the Advanced controls to see if you have taken the mute off the pc speaker. There might also be an option to play sound on the pc speaker simultaneously with the headphones. If so, uncheck the dual play box so the sound will not play through the pc speaker when you have the headphones plugged in.

You are getting low volume because there is no amplifier in those speakers. Computer speaker sets are powered -- there is an amp in one of them them which drives both speakers -- a computer audio output without an amplifier will only satisfactorily drive headphones.

So we're talking PC here, right?

I don't understand what you want to record. Going from the PC Headphone jack to the PC Line IN might be unwise in order to prevent a feedback loop. External (non-PC) source and PC MIC might work but you would probably want to monitor it on headphones again because of possibe feedback.

Does your MIC work?

Right click the speaker icon again and select Adjust Audio Properties or open Control Panel and select Sounds & Audio Devices. Select the box to place the icon on the Taskbar for future use.


Right click on the little speaker icon in your Taskbar and select Open Volume Control, if it's there. From there you're on your own. I have a sound card so I don't know what you will see. Look around, there may be a bunch of audio outputs and inputs with Master and individual volume & balance controls plus one for your Mic. Make sure it's not muted.

This means that their is a sound indicator but no sound comes out from your headphone.
I want you to double click the speaker icon found at the bottom of your task bar, along with the time and other icon.
A dialog box will appear, un-check all the option found on that window, add also some option by clicking the file options.
