My front loading Fridgidaire washer is making a loud clunking noise and it vibrates during the final spin cycle. I know that this might be a brearing problem, so I want help and advice in getting to the bearing to replace it and about how much would it cost. This washer is only 6 years old how come I am having problems with it already
For all those who say they recently bought the machine, the cause of the machine "walking across the floor" and vibrating violently is the packaging bolts on the back of the machine that were supposed to be removed when the machine was installed (why it says remove packaging bolts in the installation manual). These packaging bolts hold the suspension steady and firm during shipping but MUST be removed before operating the machine. When these packaging bolts (I think there are four total, some up to 6 inches long penetrate the rear of the machine) are removed, they allow the suspesion to absorb the vibration.
The frigidaire front loading washer has 2 shock absorbers and if they are broken they need replaced. This may be your problem if the machine is "walking" during spin cycles. The shocks cost about $37 each and you can install them yourself or pay around $100 labor. hope this helps.
We ended up getting the machine apart. It was the spider arms, all three werefractures. This machine is less than 5 years old. We couldn't fix, to costly, so we purchased a new one, not a
Fridgidaire.
I have the same problem with my 4-year-old Frigidaire front-loading washer.
I tore apart the washer and found there 2 of the 3 aluminum arms that are attatched top the steal shaft and to outer edge of the stainless steal tub were cracked.
The steal shaft and the stainless steal tub looked almost new but the aluminum arms were severely corroded. I’ve been told this is a common problem and is caused from electrolysis because of these different types of metals submerged soapy water.
Here is how to tell if it is the rear bearing. Open the door, grab the inner drum and see if you can move it while not moving the outer tub. If you can, then the rear bearing is bad. Fridgidaire doesn't sell the rear bearing by itself, they sell the rear outer tub shell, also when this happens the shaft on the inner drum is worn and has to be replaced. I have seen this repair cost as much as 600 dollars USF to do this repair. What causes this is using too much or high sudsing detergent. The rear seal is a water seal, however suds will wick pass the seal like a light grade oil. Also water will not remove the grease from the rear bearings, however detergent is designed to do just that. You may try calling Fridgidaire and see if they will at least provide the parts at No Charge.
This is common problem, first sign to look for is rust on your clothes, which is usually caused by a bad bearing\seal. then it break the spider bracket which is not sold seperately. and not covered by warranty. At first I thought is was the shocks i replaced that first but then took it all apart to then discover the bracket broken, and the bearing gone. once these are done, you're better off getting a new machine. unless you want to spend over 500 for these two parts. I had a diagnostic done by Sears Service and the estimate to fix, including
a credit for the inner drum (covered under 25 year warranty) was over 700.
It's about a three hour job to repace the basket with the attached bearings and arms.
Needless to say, I'm not going to get it done.

Well my problem ended up being sheared bolts that attach the spider to inner tub assembly.

I finally opened up the washer and got the outer tub and the inner tub out. The problem of the clunking noise came from a broken star shaped housing that holds the inner tub shaft. 2 of the 3 arms were broken this was the cause of the noise during the high speed rinse cycle because there was only 1 arm holding the inner tub.
I checked my warranty and there is a 25 year warranty for a replacement part for the inner wash basket or tub and I hope this is the part that is covered, I will be calling Frigidaire tommorrow.
This seems to be a common problem with Frigidaire front load washers.
I have a Frigidaire front load washer with the same clunking noise and vibration during final spin cycle. I don’t think it is a bearing but am now convinced it's broken supports as trini1 describes. I have checked new machines against mine for bearing play, they or mine do not exhibit any up and down play to explain why the steel inner drum hits the outer drum during the spin cycles. The logical explanation is the supports are damaged. the only way to know for sure is to take the outer drum apart and visually inspect it. Will do later this week and repost back on my findings. Hope trini1 is right about the warranty as the part alone cost 150+ but only 24 hours to get the part. The parts store stated this part is ordered allot.
I have a Frigidaire Front Loading Washer, 8 yrs old and same problem - it starts to clunk on the final spin. Had a repair person come out and said the bearing is out and in order to replace the bearing the seal would need to be replaced also. Between parts & labor - cost would be around $450. Repair guy just suggested us to get a new washer instead.
Is this reasonable?

Yep, I have the same problem with a Kenmore front loading washer that is only 6 years old. I removed the tub and extracted the inner steel drum, and the three-point support on the back has shattered in about 9 places around the spindle. Looking closely at it, it is cast iron and a very poor cast piece probably using very poor materials. I consider this a design fault. I will be contacting Sears about this issue and see if they will warranty the drum as others indicate.
FWT445GES1 has the same symptoms, broken spider arms
or defective bearing. The washer was purchased around 10 years
ago and we always used a high efficency detergent, so maybe it
lasted longer before the bearings or arms got corroded. I was the
excellent presentation on how to fix this, will attempt to recontact
Electrolux again on this. Their technical support was next to useless,
suggested there was something caught between inner and outer drum.
After looking on line, and doing the bearing test, it's clear what the problem
is and I'm going approach them for a new inner drum, or discount on
a new washer. I think this is a major design flaw.
We have the same problem of the loud clunking noise in the final spin. How do we get the tubs apart to look at the inner workings?? Any help anyone please. And if this is happening a lot why doesn't Frigidaire put access panels to the drums so you can get to them.
This sounds like my problem exactly and the machine is only 2 1/2 years old. I'm not sure I can take out the whole inside of machine myself. Maybe I should buy another machine with a different name on the front.

The spin cycle only is very very violent. Like it's going to break through the wall. I guess I'll have someone take it all apart and see what they find. It work soooo quite up until I washed a bedspread, then all "H" broke loose!

I just bought my Frigidair front load washer yesterday and I haven't been able to do ONE load of laundry. The final spin cycle caused the machine to vibrate so hard that it put a hole in my wall. I am hoping/assuming that whatever is the problem will be covered by the warranty seeing as how I would have to use it to have normal wear and tear. I am so disapointed!

I purchased my Frigidaire 3 days ago. It vibrates so much it literally moves across the floor! I thought I had put too many clothes in and tried it out with a smaller load - no luck. No wonder it was on sale :-(
