There is no place to enter a region which is crazy. The only thing remotely close is "language" (French, English or Spanish) and English is selected. Any more ideas?? The TV is an Insignia. Thanks

I'm having the same problem trying to play DVDs purchased in the UK in the US. The DVDs are season 1 & 2 of Downton Abbey - season 2 hasn't been shown in the US yet but the problem occurs with season 1 as well.

You can get a region free player program on your computer and then you will be free from the region code issues. You could try Leawo Blu-ray Player which is a free Blu-ray player and you could use it to play any DVD and Blu-ray discs.

How do i get wrong region off my dvd player so it will play dvds

If you are in region 1 for DVD's you can't play any other region. You have to buy the right region DVD for the player. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region_code

DVD's wont play - says wrong region but they are compatible

To change the Region code on your player, open Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device manager, and click on DVD/CD ROM drives, then right click on the DVD drive and click Properties then click on DVD Region.
You can enter a new region and it also shows you how many changes have been made.
NOTE you can make only 4 changes and the player will lock permanently on the 4th change.
If you want to play DVD from any region you maybe able to upgrade the firmware to make it region free BUT if you make a mistake or installed the wrong firmware the player will be a piece of junk.
The best solution to make the player region free is to install a piece of software that allows you to play DVDs from any region. There are several available on the Internet but my favourite is DVD-Region Free

DVD Player D1816 shows Wrong Regional Disc message

Many DVD players are preset to one region and if you use a DVD destined for any other region, the player will refuse to play. Some players have the option to change this to universal mode. Check your player's manual if yours has this facility.

Yes. You can play VCD movies and and Audio CDs on most players.

Want to unlock Philips DVD player (DVP320)

Did you follow these instructions exactly? If you pressed 9990, as you mentioned, it will not work. You need to press 99990. Do you see region "0" on the display?

start the player without any DVD in it.
open the lid.
while the lid is open press 9,9,9,9,0
you should see region 0 displayed.
close the lid.

Your DVD player is now region free.

note:
replace 0 with 1 to 6 at to set the wanted region number if needed.

The DVD player does not recognize disks that it used to play before.

It sounds like the DVD region (a setting in both your OS and your DVD hardware) may have been changed. DVD regions are the agreed upon method (by entertainment companies, hardware manufacturers and governments) to limit cross-border sharing of media. Most valid (read: non-pirated) DVDs have a region code. Your DVD drive will only play DVDs with a region code that matches the DVD region code set on the DVD drive.

You didn't mention your OS but if you are running Windows XP then go to Start->Control Panel->System->System->Hardward->Device Manager and find your DVD player. Right-click the DVD player and select Properties from the menu and you should see a properties dialog-box with a DVD region tab. This is where you can change the DVD region that your player will recognize. Be careful, don't play around here, most DVD players have an embedded limit on the number of times (4-or-so) the DVD region can be changed.

Hope this helps.
