Last night I smelled a horrible smell while cooking, and thought it was something that spilled in the oven (which was on at the time), but was concerned because it smelled like electrical wires.
This morning the food in the freezer was defrosting, and the food in the refridgerator did not feel as cold as normal. The light still comes on, there is a low motor noise coming from the appliance.
Kenmore is coming out tomorrow. The question:
There is an extended warranty I can buy for $250, which will cover this or any problem with the refridgerator for the next year. If it needs a new motor it is worth it since the visit alone will cost $72 - if it is a wire I am better off with out it. Anyone have any idea what is wrong with the refridgerator?
Thanks
Good posibility that some thing is wrong with the defrost system. This is not as expensive to repair as a compressor. Is it worth it? The compressor and having it replaced and recharged will run much more than 250 a lot of the time or very close to it. Unplug it for a few hours with the freezer door open. Then plug it back in and see if it starts freezing again. This would tell you if it is something with the defrost cycle. The low motor noise may be the fan in the bottom of the unit. It would be good to know if the compressor is running or not.

Thanks for the advice, I unplugged it and left the door open, it has been on again for a couple of hours and it is not cold. The repairman came, it is the compressor.
