I want to watch DVDs on my netbook. So I bought an Asus sdrw-08d1s-u which is a portable DVD CD writer and reader. But it is not compatible with windows media player. SO is their something that the I could use to play dvds or some way that i could make windows media player work with my portable disk drive.

Yes if you have a DVD ROM in your notebook but if it does you can use a external DVD ROM for you to able to watch DVD movies. And see to it that your notebook have install the software your External DVD player. Or you can also download a DVD movies in your notebook.

The best I can find is a slightly different part number 1 is SDR-08B1-S, 2 is SDRW-08D1S-U. The downloads are at Asus ;

Depends what you want to do with it and what the OS is.

If Windows XP, you can burn to CD using OS but DVD needs Nero or similar to burn. Further, you will need DVD display software such as http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/products/dvd/Free-DVD-Player-Software.htm to watch DVDs.

I think Vista works native (untested) but Windows 7 has basic funtionality built right in.
