Akai PT5499hd that has suddenly lost color alignment

Hi I have an Akai PT5499hd that has suddenly lost color alignment. When trying to adjust the lamps I noticed that the yellow lamp picture appears to be distorted so no adjustment to focus, intensity or alignment will correct it. What can I do to repair or adjust? Thanks!!!

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,PioneerAkai PT5499hd that has suddenly lost color alignme - 2_bing.gif Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

My screen has little dots appearing sometimes red sometimes blues behind the picture i just replaced the lamp bulb as i thought it would cure the problem

the projection tube needs to be adjust for color alignment, each tube (red, green, blue) must be aligned so you there would be no color smear appear on screen. if it is aligned try to set up the color balance, hue etc.

What is and how do i adjust the white balnceon my fujitsu S550 digital camers?

Adjustment is in the menu screen, you shouldn't have to go very deep as it is a frequently adjusted setting.
White Balance is how the camera interprets white depending on ambient lighting. Have you ever noticed how when you are taking pictures inside at night and all of the light comes from lamps and the flash that your pictures have a yellow look? Take a picture under flourescent lamps and the pictures look different as well? How about outside? Best true color rendition on the picture taken outside, but different than the others.
White balance is a way for the photographer to adjust the tone of the picture to accurately reproduce the true colors seen in real life in the picture. Most cameras have an automatic white balance and they usually work fairly well. But for the best results, set it manually. Your whites will be white and skin tones appear accurate.
Hope this helps! Good Luck!

The picture is double pictured with what appears to be a ghost

projection sets on occation need to be re-alligned. check your owners manual if you have one and re-align your lamps to the test screen that is displayed when you press 'menu' from your remote or from the front of the tv. This should fix alot of it and you may find the color adjustments may need adjusting after re-aligning your lamps. hope this helps. I had one and that sounds like the 'ghost' images I had till I did this.

Elmo trv-35g & h - showing brite yellow color on areas in picture

I'm not too familiar with this unit but in general I'd check that the lamp is the correct type, not simply worn though not burned out, and that it's seated (aligned) properly in its socket.

less likely: If you are comfortable taking a voltage reading in the socket, it should read approximately 10 - 20% higher than the rated voltage of the lamp. This is because there is no load on the circuit with the lamp out of the socket. With the lamp in, the voltage would drop a bit. If your reading is significantly lower than the lamp voltage rating, I'd suspect a wiring problem but cna't specualte further.
