Onkyo receiver memory power backup not working

I am using onkyo HTIB HT-S570 receiver since last four years. Lately the memory preservation power backup of receiver HT-R320 is not working properly due to which radio tunning memory gets lost every time I switch off the mains power and I have to re-tune all the broadcast stations. I use the system daily for about 2 hours. Pl help.

According to the user manual batteries are not used for memory preservation hence battery replacement is ruled out.

My observation is that if I switch OFF the set and switch ON again after 5 or 10 minutes, the memory preservation works. However if I delay switching ON beyond about 10-15 minutes, memory is lost. Any possibility that some elecrolytic capacitor has gone bad and need replacement...

There is a special memory chip who keps thre config. The older models has a battery who power memory offline, and that battery has 5 years life, and needs to be replaced. or new models has a eeprom who keeps data above 10years, normaly some chips has small defects who reveal after 4 or 8 years, normaly also needs to be replaced.

Onkyo support suggested I reset the unit by holding the video 1 button while pressing power to reset to factory default, which according to the Tech will reset the Logic controls of the unit.

We have "HT R670" and "HT R360" A/V Receivers with questions regarding Universal Remotes and Android Apps.

The Onkyo App will not work with the HT-R670. This receiver is part of the HT-S6200 Home Theater package and is not network compatible. You might be able to use the Logitech Harmony Hub and app or another remote control app paired with an IR repeater pointing at the receiver. Some universal remotes may support changing the inputs on the receiver. However, I don't know of any specific model that will work. The Logitech Harmony remotes are probably the most likely to support the Input button; it may take programming a specific button to match the receiver's Input function. If you need a replacement for the original remote, one source is https://www.amazon.com/OEM-Onkyo-Remote-Control-HT-S6200/dp/B0137R62H2 . The manual for the HT-S6200 is available here: http://www.intl.onkyo.com/downloads/manuals/pdf/ht-s6200_manual_e.pdf .

I can't find an Onkyo HT-R360 listed even as part of home theater system. There is an Onkyo HT-RC360. The manual for that is http://redirect.onkyousa.com/redirect_service.cfm?type=own_manuals&file=SN29400649_HT-RC360_En_web.pdf . While this model has a network connection, it is not compatible with the Onkyo app either.

I wish that I had better news for you.

I am using Onkyo HT-R320 for past 6 years. It was working fine and i connected via digital cable. suddenly i couldnt hear the audio, but the video is working fine. i verified all the setting (audio select...

I don't have a fix but I think the general explanation that could explain both issues would be that the memory for your settings isn't being retained. Check to see if the digital audio source you're having trouble hearing still has its input assigned to it. I'm thinking all your settings go back to 'factory' when you turn it off.

See this entry:
http://www.fixya.com/support/t3692493-onkyo_receiver_memory_power_backup_not

Page 36 of the manual discusses the Memory Preservation theory.

You COULD also try a forced microcomputer reset once just to see if that resolves the issue (same page).

What is the best audio configuration with this setup?

You can't just plug in optical cables. Both the TV and amp have to be adjusted to allow the different type of signals to pass. I have an Onkyo receiver myself and you have to set the sound type up for each input. It's a bit tricky to do without a manual, but you can probably download one for free if you have lost yours.

Onkyo TX-SR502 AV receiver

this could be the pre amp transistor or the power amp that needs replacing
the pre amp transistor is cheap but the power amp is not
if you did not crank it , then it is probably just the transistor that needs replacing

I cannot find the internal backup battery.

I ran into the same issue with my Onkyo 787 receiver that the internal settings would get reset after a short power off. Getting all settings entered again (preferences, speaker distances, volumes, stations, etc.) is a real pain. Good news is that Onkyo DOES have a battery (actually a capacitor) to store the settings and that capacitor can go bad. Another good news is that replacement is quite easy.
The settings are preserved by a 5.5V 0.1F capacitor. Digikey sells it for around $1.50, you may choose a higher capacitance, as 0.3F if you're replacing it. I didn't want to wait for the part, so I decided to replace with something I had around from an old power supply. I used 10V 1000uF capacitor as a replacement and it works fine. Yes, it is 100x less in capacitance, but preserving setting for a short time is better than not preserving them at all. Settings survived a couple of days disconnect and I haven't tried leaving the receiver off for any longer yet.
Here's how you can find it: it's on the main horizontal board, on the same side where the volume control is. It's small, looks like a watch battery turned on the edge. Mine was in a blue shrink wrap. I cut off the leads next to the battery and left the wires sticking out of the PCB. There's plenty of room to put any capacitor.
