Had this problem as well.. check the oxygen sensor on it (sometimes critters like that wire) or like shel said dirty injectors or filters could be it.. bad gas is also another one... dont go to places with old tanks or that is really cheap, run at least 91

We have also had this occur. Low oil, overdue oil change, dirty oil filter and dirty air filter, dirty fuel filter has appeared to be the problems. So possibly a bad plug could cause this, or dirty injector.

I'm getting a power system alert message on my screen: 2005 V50 wagon

Internet search suggests faulty alternator, after testing and cleaning battery cables, but some after market alternators also continued to display the error, so be careful in purchasing a replacement alternator.

2005 Volvo S40 T5 that I drove for 2 miles, parked in garage and noticed engine was HOT! Took 5 hours to cool down. No leaks, coolant and oil levels are good. A/C is cold. What should I do? Thanks!

Possible water pump failure. Was temp guage showing "hot" ? , if not maybe coolant sensor issue. Had the car just been driven hard ? Any pressure in coolant expansion tank ?

When i shut off the engine on my 2005 volvo s40 t5, a small electric motor continues humming and clicking for about 1 minute.

Can't be 100% sure but could be a cooling fan, open engine whilst it is running and see what fans are turning, then turn off engine and look again.

2005 Volvo S40 2.4I, Just bought this car used, and didn't hear this sound before. Car has a high pitched whirring sound. It gets louder as I accelerate. What could be the problem?

My S40 T5 makes a whirring sound due to the turbo but.... I did have an issue with the right front hub bearing. Lots of road noise while driving and it got louder as I accelerated. $215 dollars for the part.

My volvo s40 t5 2005 is suddenly losing power as if running out of petrol, then power kicks in again. computers at volvo pick nothing up..scary..as i never know when it is going to happen.

if computers arent picking anything up its not an electrical fault, sounds like your surging because of bad fuel or blocked injectors, run some fuel cleaner through the car and see if that makes a difference. fuel filters may need to be changed but try the cleaner first.
