I purchased a Shark G1405Z iron on 7/22/09 at WalMart. I was pleased with it until this past Friday. I was ironing dress slacks and noticed it was hotter to the touch than usual. A few minutes later it completely shut off and I have not been able to get it to work since. I am sure that the electric breaker did not shut off since I am able to run other appliances from this same outlet. Please let me know if there is something that can be done.

SOURCE: Paid $50.00 for Shark model G1405Z. It lasted 3 weeks.

WalMart would have replaced it with or without a receipt for an identical priced product. You can take the bad one back with the receipt and ask for a refund, provided they ARE identical. The barcode is scanned onto the receipt.

SOURCE: shark iron-61468-10 steam button stuck on dowm

Pull the button up. You may have to coax it up; I pried it back to the up position with a needle. Grasp it firmly and pull it straight off (it is fitted in place by friction only). Below the button is a stem that operates the valve, gently full it back up with a pair of needle nose pliers (careful - the stem is plastic). Replace the button (align the stem into the hole on the bottom of the button. Cycle the button a few times with water in the reservoir. You should be back in the ironing business now! :) It seems like it sticks when the iron is left unused for a period of time; as if the valve sticks when dry. I'm going to leave water in it this time, although the instruction manual says not to.

Shark iron leaks water from the bottom of the body where the power cord come out. could it be a crack in the holding tank? Is there a way to fix it,or will I need to purchase a new iron?

It is hard to assess what would be the cause, but I think your diagnosis may be correct, of a possible crack, or a tube has come loose. You tube has instructions on how to disassemble and iron if you are up to it and have the tools. Then you'd have to order a replacement part, and re-assemble. I'd just go to walmart & buy a new iron! But that's me! :)

My iron

Trash this iron as the cost of repair would be a lot more than going to walmart and getting one.
