Problem on camera

I often have problems like this using Windows Live Messenger. What you should do is :

1. Sign in to your Yahoo Account
2. Click on Messenger at the top left
3. Click on Preferences under "Yahoo! Chat" and over "Privacy Options"
4. After opening Preferences, click on "Video & Voice"
5. Select the Camera Device you want to use while using Yahoo

Did you try uninstalling and then reinstalling the yahoo messenger? This might work. Also, install the latest software there is. I would also recommend to try other programs and see if you can see yourself, just to make sure that the problem is with the yahoo messenger and not the camera.

A. Skype Setup:

1. Go to Tools, then Options, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
2. Then click on the Video Settings.
3. The camera if Installed Properly will come up and show a video picture.
4. Then, on the bottom of the page click on Save.

The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now be able to see and her to you.
B. Yahoo Setup:
After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger (http://www.soft32.com/download_30.html ) set it up as follows:

1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.

1. After you start Windows Live Messenger, expand the view by clicking on the square on top left next to the red X.
2. Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the right side, click on “ “Show Menus.” And then click on “Show the Menu Bar”.
3. Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on “ “Action.”
4. Go to “TOOLS” and click “Audio and Video Setting” and follow the instructions.

NOTE: Your audio and video should work. Enjoy.

When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.

Which ever Messenger or Skype you are using has to be setup in order to function. Normal 0 What Messenger are you using? I'll assume that you are using YAHOO MESSENGER and walk you through the setup. All Messengers and Skype have an Audio & Video setup in them so the camera and microphone work properly with their program.
Bring up Yahoo Messenger and on the top left click on MESSENGER.
Then click on "Messenger Preferences."
Next in Category click on "CALLIN & DEVICES."
When that comes up check and check to see that Microphone is set to your audio card.
Next insure that the speakers are set to you audio card.

Then go to "Test Audio"
In Blue "Open the call setup Assistant"
When the window opens follow the instructions. When finished your camera audio should function properly.

Also you need to go to the Video setup and do the same so it will broadcast the pictures.

If you see a black screen when broadcasting your webcam:
There may not be enough light in the room. If so, illuminate the room appropriately.
Your camera may not be functioning properly. Try your camera with the manufacturer's software.
The correct camera may not be selected by Yahoo! Messenger. To change your camera source:
1. Click the "Messenger" menu in Yahoo! Messenger and select "Start My Webcam."
2. Click the "Messenger" menu in Yahoo! Messenger and select "Preferences."
3. Click the "Webcam" category.
4. Click the "Camera Source" button.
5. Click the pull-down menu and select the desired camera.
6. Click the "OK" button.
If you see a black screen when viewing a friend's webcam:
Check the status message at the bottom of your viewer window. If it says "Stopped," the person broadcasting has stopped broadcasting images. Ask the person to resume broadcasting and try viewing again.
If the person is in fact broadcasting and you still see a black screen in your viewer, ask them to check their camera and take the webcam compatibility test.

Toshiba laptops with built-in cameras tend to come with proprietary software that controls the camera. You're going to want to disable or turn this off prior to using the camera in an IM client.

Alternatively, since you seem to be having issues with Yahoo, consider trying Windows Live Messenger. Also previously known as MSN messenger, clients can now talk to people using Yahoo messenger. You might be able to have a video conversation that way, without having to deal with Yahoo.
