Give your gasoline engine a little TLC before you put it away for the Winter season

When gasoline sits for an extended period of time the "varnish" builds up inside the carburetor and can keep your engine from running. If you suspect that this has happened, the only good solution is to first replace the carburetor, and then ALWAYS use a Fuel Stabilizer every time you buy gas for your lawn mower.

Also, at the end of a season, it is always a good idea to run the engine until it is dry and out of gas before storing the lawn mower over the winter. A fuel stabilizer should keep your gas fresh over the winter, and the lawn mower will start up quickly in the spring. If you are the cautious type, always buy fresh gas at the beginning of every season, and NEVER forget the fuel stabilizer no matter what. Gas starts turning bad after just 30 days....

5W30 is ok during the winter season...but use 10W30 or 30 W non detergent during the summer season

Did you drain the fuel before you put it away? If not then you should drain the fuel and clean the carb. Gas when in lawn mowers and any other small gas engine will turn into a slim in a way and will block the carb. Drain the fuel and clean the carb system will run great when that is done

First check for spark. Remove the spark plug. Leave the spark wire connected. Hold the plug against the metal of the mower engine so you have a ground and can see the gap of the electrode where the spark jumps across. Have someone pull the starter cord and verify that you have a spark. Hold it by the threads of the plug so you don't get a little spark jolt yourself.

go to an auto parts store and get a can of starter spray (it's actually ether), Remove the lawnmower spark plug and spray a little ether in the plug hole. Put the plug back and tighten it and see if it starts.
It will probably start, run for 5 or 10 seconds and then die. Repeat this procedure once or twice again and eventually it will start to draw gas from the lawnmower tank.

A seasonal tip. when you put the mower up for the winter, **** the remaining gas out of the tank, start the engine and let it run until it uses up the gas in the carburetor. This will make iot much easier to start in the spring
