The spindle in the middle of the machine (the part that always stays there even when the bowl is off) is broken. The little "lip" that the bowl hooks onto to lock it has broken off. I'd like to replace it at home (it's no longer under warranty, of course!)...is that even possible??? Is there a schematic somewhere??
Thanks so much!!!
I don't know about the little lip you're referring to, but the central spindle that comes up from the base of our KitchenAid 12 cups food processor KFP750WH0 splintered and broke while we were using it. We ordered a replacement motor sleeve shaft part number KA8211849 from the Gourmet Depot for $4.95 plus $3.50 s/h. Removing the broken plastic sleeve shaft was the difficulty; it isn't glued or screwed on but somehow it didn't want to be pulled, pried, or cut off. With the help of our neighbor fix-it man and all four of us working at it with screwdrivers, we got the old broken part up and off. Pushing the new one onto the metal motor shaft was easy, and it was fixed!
Thanks so much! I had the exact same experience and searched high and low for replacement part information (including a fruitless call to Kitchenaid) until I found your post. I ordered the part from Gourmet Depot was able to pry off the plastic sleeve with a a screwdriver, time and lots of patience. The new sleeve fits like a glove and I am back in business.
Ditto! Had the same issue...what a task getting the old one off. I finally just cut it down the side and took it off. Whew!
