Old model refrigerator have their defrost timer located at the back right upper corner or the left lower corner with a hole slot for a screw driver. New models have it inside the refrigerator near the thermostat control. It also has a hole slot for a screw driver.
Most often the defrost thermostat fails there should be a diagram or small manual hidden under the kick panel or taped on the back of the refrigerator. I believe this model uses a computer to control all functions including defrost . There should be a way to run diagnostics on this to tell you your problem if you can find the hidden manual.
If the freezer is not freezing. I am guessing that the refrigerator is not cold also. Here is link to an Amana Refrigerator Not Freezing. You will need to narrow down parts that are working and are not working. I would first pull the refrigerator out to make sure that the compressor and the condenser fan are running(the condencer fan motor runs to cool the compressor down). This is a link to a GE refrigerator condenser fan motor problem. The compressor and condenser fan motor are in the same place. This can give an idea at least where it is at. Make sure that the evaporator fan motor in the freezer is running also. Make sure that the rear freezer wall is not iced over. This can be a defrost problem. See what a defrost problem is HERE. If your unit is sitting there with the lights on but you hear no noise from any fan motor or your compressor. Your unit may be in a defrost mode. Locate your defrost timer. It looks as tho it is either located in the front behind the kick plate or in the back by the compressor. OK, you can open the cover. Here is the part if you need it. Here is a diagram if you should also need it. It is number 12 on the diagram. Let me know if you need anything further. I forgot what the original question was.
The defrost control is located between the two lights on the ceiling of the fresh food section. If you use a mirror you'll see the timer shaft through the access hole.
you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, ie defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow. You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model
wel there are 2 thermostats in this unit, a defrost thermostat(very common to go bad) but would mainly affect refig sect and the freezer only slightly, the other is a cold control thermo affecting both freezer and refrig, if this goes bad you get NO cooling, looking at the diagram for the refrig it has a defrost timer under the righthand side of the kickplate, i would try advancing the timer, with a screw driver you can manual turn the plastic gear on the timer( i believe on yours its problaby a pink knob. its possible that the timer has gone bad and the unit is stuck in a defrost mode, try turning it ever so slightly, youll hear it "clicking" as you do , it should "snap" into arun mode and everthy kick on for it is stuck in defrost(worth a try anyway)
