Check the fuel lines for cracks/breaks. If they are o.k., then:

You will need to disassemble the carburetor and spray with carb.cleaner. Make sure the small screen is free of debris.(Should be able to see day light through it.) Use a Den Tek Brush, (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=165357&catid=1152),to clean the small portals in carb. These portals canbecome blocked. Reassemble and start.

If you need further assistance, just let me know.

My fl1500le blower starts in full choke but dies as soon as i move it to half choke

Check the following, and then clean or replace:
  • Fuel Filter - Located INSIDE the fuel tank
  • Spark Plug
  • Spark Arrestor - at Muffler
  • Carburetor - May need a rebuild kit

My br420c blower runs fine for about 20 seconds and then shuts off like the switch has been turned off

possibility 1) It sounds like it is sucking air with the gasoline. 2) don't rush the choke, leave it running on high with 1/2 choke. When you go to move the choke to off, move it very very slowly while the governor can catch up and raise the revs. Or slow the revs down before turning the choke off.

It is obviosly fuel starvation, have you actually replaced the fuel filter on the end of the hose in the tank? try richening the fuel mixture by unscrewing the H and L screw on the carb 1/4 turn on each, you may need a special tool to grip and turn these.

Runs good when choke is half way if move up or down it will shuth off also when you accelerated all the way up he died on you

Two things to check. One is that if it will only run with partial choke then there is a slight clog in the carb. Two is if it will not rev up then you should check to see if the muffler and exhaust port are plugged with carbon. The muffler can be "burned out" with a hand held torch. Often the muffler will have a spark arrestor screen in the end of it which can become clogged.

Starts on full choke but stalls when moved to 1/2 - can play with it to keep ig going for a min or two but dies out.

When you go from full choke (rich air/fuel mixture in carb) to half-choke (leaner air/fuel mixture), you are requesting the engine to do more with less. This is a very common problem. You say it dies out. It is probably at that point dying out "lean" with a lot of air and not very much fuel. Several things can cause it to die out. Bad fuel filter in gas tank, debris in the carburetor fuel inlet screen (small wire mesh filter)...or it could just need the L mixture screw adjusted which afftects how rich/lean the engine is at startup. Since it is dying lean, I suggest turning the L (Low speed) mixture screw counterclockwise to increase fuel flow at startup. Turn it about 1/4 of a turn. If this allows it to keep running, then good. The L and H mixture screws have unconventional heads on them that require a special tool, but you can make your own with a small 22 gauge automotive-type female spade connector. Just tap it down onto the head of the L screw (one closest to engine below the idle speed screw) insert a flat blade screwdriver, and you should be able to turn it. If adjustment does NOT help the dying problem, then the installation of a gasket and diaphragm kit is probably the next step. Good luck, and you are not alone, there are hundreds of these machines that do this.

Blower only runs with full choke. When I switch to half choke, it dies and won't start.

it may simply need the high speed jet opening up a bit (2 screws near eachother on the carb and the high speed is furthest from the engine)
failing that it needs a carb kit.... this is a serviceable item changed regularly.

Is there a choke setting and throttle setting for best results in getting the MTD yarde amchine started?

Most of the small outdoor power equipment that I have used takes the following to start:

1. Prime 6-8 times, or whatever the manual calls for.

2. Choke the carb to full choke.

3. Pull starter rope. It may sputter and die.

4. After it sputters and dies, put the choke on 1/2. Pull a time or 2 more and should start. Run like that 10 seconds or so, then take choke all the way off.
