My mom has an Emerson LCD Color Flat Screen TV Model #: LC320EM8. When you turn the TV on, it has thin red, green, blue, yellow and black lines running from the top to the bottom of the screen. What would be causing this problem?

HDCP- High bandwith digital content protection is something that would be built into your tv. it prevents you from copying programs to another device. You have two options- one use a different type of cables like say rca red-white-yellow cables or for hd video. component blue green red cables and red and white cables for sound

I had this problem with the LC320EMX, after extensive searching on the internet, I found a solution. The TV has entered some kind of test pattern, to escape from the flashing color test pattern do the following:
While the screen is changing from red,green,Blue,White, & Black, and is Unresposive, Take your factory remote, Press the up arrow, then the down arrow, then (ON THE TV) press the power button. Turn the set back on and it should be functioning properly. (BTW: the set gets into this test pattern if you press too many buttons on the remote, or if you use a universal remote with the wrong code)

I'm sorry but this is a symptom of an internal problem. You will need to reference a TV repairman.

with your remote hit the arrow up and them down arrow it should then say turn power off if not you may have to repeat the proceedure and include
left to righ then turn unit off you should be alset

IS THE THING PLUGGED IN RIGHT? YELLOW TO THE YELLOW, RED TO THE RED, WHITE TO THE WHITE? HOW ABOUT GREEN TO GREEN, BLUE TO BLUE, RED TO RED, WHITE TO WHITE?

The most common problem is the Power/Backlight Inverter Board. There are 6 mini transformers on the board, one goes bad and the TV will turn itself OFF automatically for " Protection Mode". Replace the whole board or replace the bad mini transformer.
