If it was working before, there is no need to worry about the firing order as that never changes. Things to look at;
Clean and correctly gapped spark plugs,
Clean gas,
Fuel filter?
and a clean carburetor, float bowl and jets.

make sure it hasn't damaged the crankcase seal on bottom drain and replace the oil. it is full of gas because the carburetor failed. put a rebuild kit in the carb. (needle and seat). should stop the gas from leaking in. should be fine

So it won't activate the starter motor either?
If so then sounds like a safety switch issue.

If starter goes and it just won't start, then sounds like your fuel got cut off - check the fuel cutout solenoid that some ride-ons have on the carb - follow its wire back to the ignition switch and look for shorts / breaks etc.

It's going to need a carb kit to fix the problem. Make sure your gas cap is venting ok, because gas expands in the summer and can force gas to pass thru carburetor and flood the cylinder then passing down into the oil. Depending on the age of your mower, the carburetor may have a gas shutoff solenoid on the bottom and this may have malfunctioned. Another is a bad float or needle valve which a carburetor kit would fix. A needle kit with bowl gasket may be all it will need. Hope this will help.

i have seen about 4 of these have the solenoid on the bottom of the carb stuck closed was able to clean 3 out of the 4 there not cheap so try hard to clean it also had a few briggs engines have bad safety switches shut them off so check for power and ground

You should be able to get a new carb from any john Deere dealer.You may want to check the tractor for fire when it's warm,you may have a coil breaking down when warm due to the oil has leaked out over the years.I would check to see if you have spark or not before buying a new carb.
