Hello, i cant print\copy. i get a message about empty cyan and yellow ink but i only wanted to print in black. do i have to change the other colors to print in black (which is full)?

Check the printer options or settings, Click Print and then on the pop up window before you print, instead of color select print mode as black and white. Then try again and see, if it does print try removing the colored cartridge and see if it prints. If it fails again you will need to play around with the options and quality of the printout.

I rwplaced the black ink cartridge a week ago. Now the printer says the colored ink carftridge is emty aand it will not let me print. I only want to print black and white and not able to get to a store...

The only way to solve the problem is by replacing the color cartridge.
If you only want to print black and white get a black and white printer.
Sorry, but that's the cold hard facts.

Can not get printer to print in black and white

Hi, May be you printer had been set auto color. To set it manually, go to printer setup in your computer. Select you file you wish to print the click print. On pop up printer set up you should see Canon MP 210 series printer. Then Click properties, you can see now the printer options like media, quality, paper source, color, greysacle and priview. Click greyscale to get monochrome printing.click Ok and Ok again. You should get a black white ( BW) printing result. In addition, to duplicate the file to get hard copies from your printer press Black button before do copying to get non color hard copy.

Black and white prints are not black

Sorry, steve, that you are experiencing this problem.

According to canon.com's website regarding the i9900 InkJet Photo Printer:

Why color ink may be used when printing in black and white Even when printing in black and white, color ink is used for the following reasons:
  1. Automatic cleaning of the print head.

To prevent the print head nozzles from clogging, the print head is automatically cleaned periodically. At that time, a small amount of each color ink is consumed.

Therefore, although printing in black and white is performed, color ink is also consumed.

  2. Color inks may be used to create black.

When printing in grayscale or on photo paper or when duplex printing, although printing appears in black and white, the color black may be created using the three (cyan, magenta, and yellow) color inks. Printers without a pigment black tank / cartridge will print black / grayscale will create a composite black using color ink even on plain paper.

Therefore, although printing in black and white is performed, color ink may be consumed.
  3. In order to keep the heavy black ink from smearing on the page or in the printer, color ink is used when duplex printing to help create black text.

    ---
I might suggest taking out the color ink cartridges leaving only black there, but some printers don't take kindly to this. So, you may have to further experiment with magenta, cyan, and yellow to make it at least seem b&w to your best eye's judgment.

Good luck on this.

Can not print in black and white. Everything is printing in color red. cant find setting to change to print in black and white

On your windows desktop, left click on START. Left cllick on CONTOL PANEL, then left click on PRINTERS. RIGHT CLICK on your printers icon. On the drop-down menu, left click on PRINTING PREFERENCES. On th MAIN tab, look for a checkbox that says GRAYSCALE PRINTING, MONOCHROME PRINTING, PRINT BLACK ONLY, or a similar phrase for B&W printing. Check the box, left click APPLY, then OK. Print a test to confirm.

Cant print black or do black and white copies

He's not saying that the black cartridge won't print (which would warrant cleaning the heads, or messing with the cartridges) -- I have the same problem that MarkDan is having as well... no matter what you select as the output from any "Print" dialog window, the HP 21xx and 12xx series printers _always_ print in full color. You can choose Black and White, Greyscale, Color -- doesn't matter what you choose in the dialog boxes, it utterly ignores you, and will always print in color.
I have no idea why it does this, but it's eating a _ton_ of color ink for no good reason. I have searched all over the Web and on HP's site, but solution has been found.
