The blue crosses are too far right of center to adjust

you will need to install a convergence repair kit. You can get the convergence repair kit for your model at www.tvrepairworld.com which also contains the CD with step by step instructions for the repair.

I've replaced the convergence chips and when I turn on the T.V I hear a ticking from inside of the set, and a popping sound from speakers,

Hello

The ticking is from the the power supply trying to start. (Sometimes you can here from the speakers). Something else in the set is holding down the startup process. Why did you replace the convergence chips? Did you replace with the exact version of chip? Did you refloat the chips or were they socketed? What was the original problem? If the original problem was just bad convergence then I would say that something went wrong when you replace the chips. I.E. bad chip, wrong version, bad solder connection, pin bent in socket. Retrace you steps and post again.

JVC AV-48WP30 will not give a picture

Replace the convergence IC`s again using original Sanyo chips (STK 392-110 or STK 392-180). Make sure to use plenty of heat sink compound. Coat the entire back side of the chips. Also look to see if any of the low ohm resistors are burned. A shorted chip will cause the thumping sound and the set will shutdown. I am guessing that you used generic IC`s as a replacement. They are cheap and the leggs fall off when you apply too much heat during soldering. Dont wory about the CRT driver or the deflection board, they are probably fine.
