My Jenn Air cook top does not exhaust adequately when grilling leaving the room smokey and setting off fire alarms. Have changed and cleaned filter. Is there a stronger exhaust fan?

has a pop up exhaust hood that will not stay up long enough for the fan to come on. It will go up but then right back down. I don't have a schematic to troubleshoot it.has a pop up exhaust hood that will not stay up long enough for the fan to come on. It will go up but then right back down. Can this grill be also used on propane? If so you might be running it too hot on natural gas, check to see if the control knobs have two different set of markings.
Your doing it right. It just isn't a very good design. I'm betting that you also wonder if you have it plugged in all the way too, as it feels a bit loose at the plug end also. And, it isn't just because it is imbalanced -right? Don't worry it is exactly how Jenn Air made it.
As far as the other big pieces of metal - I think your friend may be onto something.
Good Luck
There is a fan that sucks DOWN like a Jenn-Air cook top. There is no hood usually over such a stove. Usually the suction for the vent is between the burners. I think the air can be exhausted through a filter back into the room or to the out of doors.
1) turn off power at the breaker.
2) remove hold down screws
3) pop up cooktop out of counter top
4) remove knobs and downdraft grille
5) remove ceramic top (screws around outside and also in side grille opening)
6) unplug burners replace with new burner
Hello
If the grilling elements does not get hot enough, then the main reasons for that are:
Escessive air movement across the grill.
Surface controls may not be properly set.
and the voltage maybe low.
But if is not getting hot at all then you can check by exchainging the elements to see if it is the element itself, and if it is the element then you will need to replace it.
I hope this help!!
If you need to replace it I know a place that are very cheap for Jenn-Air parts and super fast delivery...Let me know.

I just had the same problem- when I replaced the whole cartridge. I repalced the infinite switch- do the one that gets the hottest- or do both. It is easy to do- just write down the wiring diagram - make sure all power is off- cost of new switch was about $37.00 This solved the problem- however make sure to check the sizng on the new switch shaft as my old knob would not fit properly on the shaft of the new switch. good luck
The left side is set for your grill. There is apparently a switch under the left side top / front of the cooktop. The aeration tray has a prong on one end that fits into a hole in the front end of the burner basin and activates the switch which stops the fan from coming on when using the burners and allows the fan to run when using the grill. Try switching sides with the aeration trays as one might make better contact than the other.
