    Similar problem here.

My EP716 start everytime but after 3 minutes it shut off. No lights indicating any problem.

I called Optoma tech supp and they told me that they had seen similar problems. When I ask if this was a kind of recall they automatically backoff.

ALSO CHECK YOUR FAN. IF THE FAN OR A HEAT SINK IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY (I.E. THE FAN MAY JUST NEED TO BE CLEANED OR REPLACED, THERE SHOULD BE A SMALL HEAT SINK. IF CLOUDED W/DUST, IT WILL KEEP THE OPERATION SHORT). ALSO CHECK IF YOU HAVE SET ANY TEMPERATURE SHUTDOWN PARAMETERS. IF YOUR LAMP HEATS UP FOR SO LONG AND REACHES A TEMPERATURE THAT WILL AFFECT THE CIRCUITS, THIS OF COURSE WILL SHUT DOWN YOUR UNIT UNEXPECTEDLY. HOPE THIS HELPS...JGUAM

Before you rip apart your project, double check the on screen menu settings. Had a similar problem and found the auto-shut off was set for 15 minutes. Double check the lamp settings and disable auto-shut off.

When i first turn it on the message (projector over heated will automatically shut off lamp) comes up and then shuts off after 2 mins

You have an overheating problem. To solve it

1) Ensure that there are clear air pathways around the projector

2) Clean the air filters.

3) Ensure that the fans are running. If the fans don't run the projector won't fire it.

It is likely that cleaning the filters will solve your porblem.

I have an Optoma EP716 projector. It has run for

either the lamp has/is going to expire, or the ballast is bad. if the lamp has bulges or black spots on the inside, replace the lamp and clean out your projector with canned air. too much dust keeps in the heat and makes a 2000 hour lamp go in 1100 hours.

There is no fuse. I took my EP 716 apart to find out why it died. I found a resistor had blown on the power board made by the Tiwan co. Quazarpower.

Optoma EP716 turns on but no picture displays

Don't ever just unplug the power cord while it is on. The bulb needs to cool down with the fan still on.
