Question about Electronics - Others
I am trying to play an MKV file! - the video playback is always a lot slower than the audio.
I have tried several different media players including MPC,VLC,WMP,DIVX, real player and more...
I have also tried what seems to be millions of different codecs. Any ideas?
MKV is a file extension of Matroska file for storing video (with subtitles and audio). You can download some free MKV player Software to play MKV files. Try some players with full MKV support. You can try Leawo Free Blu-ray Player which is all-inclusive media player software to play back Blu-ray/DVD disc, audio, common videos and up to 1080P HD videos smoothly on Windows.

Mkv files to play correctly require quite powerful computer. Try mpg, MPEG codes but even those when used for high definition video my require some processing power.

vlc plays all sorts of videos
but wmp doesnt recognize most of the videos
what you have to do is convert the videos to .dat or .wmv or something using total video converter or something like that and then try
you can download total video converter from the net

Any file that is a RAR file isnt a media file. Rar files are basically winzip files. You can use WINZIP 7 or WinRar to to open and extract Rar files. Go to www.Download.com tand search for WInRAR.Once you find it, download and isntall WinRAR> Use WinRAR to open and extract the RAR file you need.

It could be due to outdated codec.
You can try to install CCCP or K-Lite Codec Pack that you can download in the link below
Make sure to remove all codec packs that you have installed before installing the codec packs.
Hope it helps: http://www.winxdvd.com/resource/download-mkv-codec.htm

What I do is download the klite codec mega pack and be sure to check Windows Media Player as one of the players to use it on when you download klite in the configurations. Or you can go and get VLC media player which has all the codecs you will need to play these files. This is what I use. So I know it works. Here are the links below. I hope that this assisted you. Thanks for using FixYa! John
1. Klite Codecs
2. VLC Media Player
