This is a very common symptom of a lid switch malfunction. This happens when the switch wears out. The switch may be loose or not making good contact. As you open and close the lid, you should hear a "clicking" sound as the lid switch is activated. If you do not hear the switch, you will need to remove the console and exterior casing to access the switch. The lid switch on your model is located near the left lid hinge, and is activated by a small steel rod. Sometimes, all it takes is adjusting this rod by bending it slightly to make the switch activate. If you can get the switch to click or activate by hand, there's a good chance all you need to do is adjust the rod that activates it. If you attempt all these preliminaries, and the switch still does not seem to be working properly, replace it.
