My computer screen is white

Here are the things I would try:

First, if you have another monitor I would plug it in to see if the problem is actually your monitor or something else. If you don't have access to another monitor then I would try to reset the monitor to factory defaults. I know this will not be easy because you cannot see the screen, but I looked at the manual and I believe this is how to do it:

Press the "1" button on the monitor, then press the downward arrow 6 times, then press the "2" button. I think this will reset the monitor. Take a look at the manual:

If that does not work, I would double check your cable connections (you have probably already done that). I woud then use Device Manager to make sure there's no known problem with your video adapter. To use Device Manager do this:

Right click on My Computer and select properties. Now select the Hardware tab and then click on Device Manager. Find the entry for your display adapter and verify there are not exclamation points or question marks next to it. If there are, let me know and we'll go a different route.

If the above does not pan out I would reboot the computer in Safe Mode to see what happens. Safe Mode loads Windows with a very minimal set of drivers including the most basic VGA driver available as opposed to the more capable one your most likey using now. If the monitor works in Safe Mode then it's most likely a software problem, but it does not totally rule out the possibility that the VGA hardware is going bad.

If it worked in Safe Mode then I would try a System Restore to a date before the problem began. To use System Restore do this:

Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Restore.

It's pretty self-explanitory and it will restore many critical files that may have become corrupted. It will take a while to complete, but it is reversible so you have little to lose.

If all of this fails to help then I would do whatever you need to find another monitor to plug in before you go any further. It could be a bad monitor after all.

It would appear that I am not the only one who had a white screen problem. I say 'had' because I fixed the problem easily and everything is back to normal with colors and the elimination of non-responsive clicks on web pages with the white screen.

The White Screen of Death (WSoD), not to be confused with the BSoD, infiltrated my computer several weeks ago, and I finally eliminated the problem by changing my Back Ground Theme (which I had for years) in the Control Panel, Personalization, Windows 7, to another theme, "Blue Skies", which I downloaded from Windows' other themes.

I am amazed at my simple discovery, but it worked for me. I can't imagine why the first theme went bad, but I assume in through out the years, my updates, upgrades, changes, and downloads of other applications finally destroyed the integrity of the original theme.

This fix will probably work with any Windows theme and not just "Blue Skies".
