Toshiba Satellite A205-S4617 Notebook Logo

My Toshiba Satellite out of the box sound worked great. I could plug in headphones and it would cut out the speakers....just like it should. Since I reloaded the LATEST driver, now I have to switch via the mixer between the headphones and speaker. It's just a hassle. Any suggestions/settings, etc?

The reason why I had reloaded the latest driver is that I wasn't getting any sound at all. I'm sorry, I forgot to mention that before.

    So, in summary...

    1. My laptop was fine until I lost the sound the other day.

    2. I loaded the latest audio driver and everything seemed fine until I plugged my headset in while it was playing. When it was working properly before, that would cut my speakers off, and supply audio to my headphones. It doesn't do that now. When I plug in the headphones, the speakers keep playing, and I have to go in and change the settings so that it will play out of the headphones. Then I have to change the setting back if I want the speakers. It's just a bother to do, when it was working fine before.

If I go back and restore before loading in the drivers, as you suggested, wouldn't I end up with the problem I started with?

    Thanks for your assistance.

Before going to any shops, here is a suggestion that can't hurt anything.
Go to the Control Panel and click on Sounds and Audio Devices. On the Volume tab at the bottom, you will see "Speaker Settings". Click on the Advanced button. Change that setting to "Stereo headphones". You should hear the sound only through the headphones then.

you may want to try and reinstall the driver from the manufacturers website. I had to do that with a brand new notebook as the speakers didn't work when first turned on. I'll see if I can locate a link and post again if I find it.

SOURCE: Toshiba laptop a215-s6804 built-in speakers play

The problem is not a software/driver issue.
It's the actual socket, inside is a small switch, when you insert the headphones, the switch should turn off the main speakers. If it is bent or broken they stay connected. A new socket is the only solution as they are too small ti fix.

Testimonial: "Thank you. I did re-install the driver. If it occurs again..will do a format and socket. Again, thank you! "

SOURCE: No headphone sound, but internal speaker works fine.

Hello,

Hello,

It is because that your internal speaker is the default play back device other than your head phone or external speaker.

Need to go to your sound setting.

Depend on your operating system, click Start, then click Control panel, then click Hardware and Sound, click Sound.

Under Playback tab, select your external speaker or head phones as default device.

SOURCE: My Toshiba A505-s6975 laptop is

Seems like a common issue with A505's. After a fruitless google search I basically went to speaker balance (which I had to google how to for win7!) and increased level to max for both left and rights and so far so good. Hope that helps.

Toshiiba satellite p205 Internal Harmon Kardon Speakers Do Not Work

Most likely its a nardware problem.
If Device manager shows the audio driver is working and enabled and when you plug an headphone into the headphone/audio out and you only get sound from the right headphone then the audio amp chip is faulty.
If the headphone sounds OK then the easiest solution is to connect a set of powered speakers to your laptop.

I recently installed win 7 professional. Then sound stopped working. device manager says that everything is ok. Neither laptop speakers nor headphones work. The mixer shows sound bouncing up and down. ...

You can try running a system restore and restore the system to a point when the sound was working. Probably a software conflict has caused the problem. You can also run a hardware diagnostic that is usually included with the notebook.

I can't hear sound from my laptop even with the builtin speakers. It's a Toshiba Satellite A105-S4064.

On the front of the laptop there is a circular knob, play a music cd and then turn the knob from left to right and see if the sound comes back, if that doesn't work then make sure where the speaker is in the bottom right hand side of the screen click on it and make sure the volume is turned up.

If it still doesn't work then reload the sound drivers. At this point if the sound still won't work then that means that either the speakers or the motherboard is bad and you won't know for sure unless you replace the speakers first.

Bought a new toshiba satellite t110. Sound is

I've just brought on too, I thought the same thing, have to use headphones or hook it up to a speaker otherwise I strain to hear anything. Was also disappointed to find no Media Controller software pre-installed. Overall love this portable computer.

Why our head phones on Computer are not working

Is there a switch to turn on the headphone port? Is there a control on the headphones to adjust the volume (on a volume level on the side of the laptop)? Also, when the headphones are plugged into the laptop, go into your sound settings and turn up the master volume (and wave volume if it is low.. If that works, make sure to turn it back down when disconnecting the headphones).

Also, do the headphones work in another device (stereo, etc..)?
