There is no longer a program called MSN - for nearly 6 years! The only MSN software now are Trojans, however there is still a MSN Web Portal to access Hotmail accounts.
Download Windows Live Messenger and use the built in configuration utility when you set it up.
if you have the webcam center opened along with with msn then it wont work on either one of them. you can try these steps tp check if it works for you or not.
1)look for the web cam center system tray icon and right click on it if its there and select exit
and as u said u cant see you self in web cam console --- in webcam console you can only see your self under the doodling tab and only of your webcam is working at that i.e
either you have the webcam center opened or any other messenger or software which turns on your cam then only ull be able to view your cam in webcam console alongside.
i have a gateway fx gameing laptop!! i was having probs with the cam going dark on me after a bit while using yahoo messenger..it was also freezing up but that i found out was cause yahoo SUCKS **** LOL... i downloaded msn messenger, not msn live, and the cam works fine.. so it is yahoo.. i do know that sometimes my cam will sometimes go darker in resolution if i bend the top down a bit.. its doing that because the cam is thinking that im turning it off by shutting the laptop! does the web cam work with the software it came with? can u turn it on and see urself when NOT using a messenger? if so then it might just not want to work with those 2 messengers which is weird!!!!! MAKE SURE THAT U DO NOT HAVE THE PROGRAM SOFTWARE on that came with the laptop at the same time as trying to use it with the messengers!! see if that works and ill check back with you!
laptops did not come with the high end state of the art web cams! they were made for ease not for exceptional quality!
as ive told others, make sure u actually turn off the software program that came with the computer before using with msn! u should be able to have it on while using it but for some reason some computers wont allow it! it "tells itself" that there are 2 programs trying to run the web cam when really only one is. but because the program is on, it sees it as being used in 2 places at 2 different times!
try turning off and exiting the software (dell webcam manager) and then go onto msn and try using ur web cam!! make sure the dell manager is exited, then when u have a msn window open, turn the cam on and see if ur friends can see u then..
good luck.. if this doesnt work ill check back and see what i can do for you!
I know a lot of people are having problems with the acer cam
if you updated msn try going back to your old version
or if you have'nt updated it you can try that.
The only other thing is to uninstall cam and reinstall
I've had to that so many times on my acer crystal eye cam
After you start Windows Live Messenger, expand the view by clicking on the square on top left next to the red X. Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the right side, click on “ “Show Menus.” And then click on “Show the Menu Bar”. Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on Action. Go to “TOOLS” and click “Audio and Video Setting and follow the instructions.
In msn live click on show menu then tools option for cam setup
If that don't work click again show menu then actions then video then show my webcam or start video conversation.
If taht does'nt work then I would assume it's something in your camera setup itself
First of all, have you verified you are using latest version of MSN messenger. If so and the problem still exists, give one of the other instant messengers a try, say like YM or AIM or any number of others.
What exactly do you mean by ' seems to work '?? Can you see yourself in the cam using whatever software other then MSN that you may have on your computer.
check the Audio tuning wizard of the program used with the web cam. make sure the right speakers and microphone are selected.
I have heard of a bug in MSN Messenger 7.5 that doesn't allow proper setup of sound.
If that's your current setup, you can simply use the Windows Messenger Audio Tuning Wizard to setup your sound properties. Either go through the start menu or go start->run->'msmsgs'
after completing the audio tuning wizard, close Windows Messenger. The settings should be adopted into MSN Messenger.
As long as she is accepting your call when invited it should show up a little MSN advert then show your picture.
The problem may be at your end, so check that you have the cam set up in settings and you both allow video to be accepted, ckeck all the web cam settings and menu options.
If you haven't already, download MSN live messenger.
