No this is not a common problem.
The ceramic bowl should last for years if handled correctly.
It may have had an unseen stress crack causing the premature failure.

Avoid putting cold liquid or items into the hot ceramic bowl/pot. This will cause the bowl/pot to crack and can be very unsafe when it pops. The reverse is also true, avoid putting hot liquid or items into the cold ceramic bowl/pot.

It is the sudden changes in temperature that can cause cracks to form.

Hope this helps!

Cracked ceramic Kitchenaid crock pot liner

There is no inherent problem with the Kitchenaid ceramic inserts. As far as a replacement ceramic insert, I would suggest calling Kitchenaid Customer Service. They may be able to provide a new insert at no cost if the unit is still within the 1 Year warranty.

Their toll-free phone number is 1-800-541-6390.

Cover for rival crock pot chipped and unusable

Try this website, they seem to have a good selection of replacement parts that are pretty cheap.

The size crock pot you have is the most common I think. if you aren't sure which lid to buy, email them and ask.

Hope this helps!

Hamilton beach 6qt electric crock pot about 4 years old

Call Hamilton Beach. This crock pot was recalled because of threat of severe burn. My handle broke and I dropped my lid. When I called to buy a new lid, I was told of the recall. They will send you an envelope. You then send back the end of the cord. I got a whole new cooker, crock and lid in the mail. : )
