My HDTV has no HDMI and I'm not getting a picture on the TV except for the Yamaha Backscreen

Because my TV is an older HDTV it doesn't have and HDMI plug. The way I have it hooked up is- From the Cable box HDMI to RX-V2700. From the RX-V2700 to the TV via Component cables (red, Blue, Green). What is happening is I have Audio but no Cable TV picture. Instead the Backscreen from The Receiver is on with the TV Audio. Is there any other way I can make this thing work? I know I can omit the HDMI plug from the cable box to the receiver and go with component wires and the 2 audio cables but it sounds like crap. The HDMI cable installed sounds so much better but what good is it without a picture? Please Help!

Thanks djnick989. The TV works fine with the cable box hooked directly to it via component wiring. I have it set for 480 and 1080 and it works just fine. Its when I hook the receiver up that its not working. I emailed Yamaha for some suggestions. I will let you know what they come up with.

I am using a logitech harmony one remote. i have a yamaha rx-v463 hooked up to a phillips hdtv, i am running hdmi from revr to tv. i have cable box hooked upi hdmi to recvr and bluray player hooked up to...

The remote has nothing to do with this.

Get into the manual. Page 14 says Component Video In will go to Component Video Out, not HDMI. No analog-digital video conversion is implied.

Hello i have a yamaha RX-v459, and i have an HDTV, can i connect my cable box to the yamaha and the yamaha to the TV and get HD? the Yamaha does not say HDTV, does that matter, or will i still get HD?

Yes, the cable box should/could be treated as any other digital audio device. The video could also be run directly to the TV as it doesn't actually improve from being routed to/through the Yamaha, does it?

The labeling on a given input is irrelevant (except for "PHONO", which is literal and exclusively for a turntable).

My (Cable Service) wire feed is directly behind my HDTV and hooked up over my fireplace . The Rxv667 is located on a side wall book shelf. I have A HDMI wire running to the TV from my receiver. Do I need...

Is there a set top cable box, or are you feeding the cable directly to your HDTV (coax directly to the TV). If you are feeding cable directly to the HDTV then you don't need HDMI. There maybe exceptions, but most TV's don't have HDMI output. The only thing you need to run from your TV to the Yamaha is an audio cable. I assume your HDTV has an optical audio out (either TOS or coax.... Your Yamaha will accept either). Connect the optical audio cable to the AV4 input on the Yamaha. This way when you hit the TV scene button on the Yamaha remote, it will select the AV4 audio input (the default for the TV scene). The optical cable will feed the full audio signal, so that the Yamaha can pass through the surround sound or use the decoder as appropriate to feed your 7.1 or 5.1 speaker system.
If you have a set top box, you may be better off moving that near the Yamaha. In this case, cable goes to settop box, output of set top box via HDMI or component video (RGB) and optical audio to the Yamaha (if you use HDMI Input 2, and AV4 for the optical audio (if necessary), the TV Scene will select the appropriate inputs) and then an HDMI to your HDTV.
In case one, you may need to setup the TV to process the audio appropriately. I have experience with Panasonic Plasma but thats about it.

RX-V465 Yamaha Reciver we can get picture but no sound w/PS3

Check HDMI Sound settings:
Enter Setup menu via remote, then Func. Setup / HDMI / Audio. You can choose from Amp (sound will be played via Yamaha), TV (sound will go straight via HDMI out to your TV and not play on Yamaha) and Amp+TV (Yamaha will play the sound and also pass it to the TV).
Also what is your source? DVD or some network player? For example Yamaha cannot decode audio in AAC or other computer formats, so be sure to change the audio settings of your player to output PCM and not raw/bitstream.

I'm not getting YHT 391 surround sound during TV viewing. Surround sound is available for DVD, Tuner. Connection via HDMI Cable from the YHT 391 out HDMI to the HDMI #6 on a HDTV 1080p Sharp.

I havent received my system yet,but while reading the manul it says the hdmi cable only transmits the picture(i know i know hdmi supposes to transfer both)you suppose to hook up an dital or coaxile cable for the sound

Setting up Cable with HDMI

Yes, the firmware on your hdtv box has an old firmware, I switched my old hdtv box with a newer one box and the problem was solved. It seems that it can't work if your hooking up with DVI to HDMI cable to your receiver to tv. Your hd box must have an HDMI out otherwise it causes problems. I also have rx-v661 and i finally hooked up everything HDMI to the receiver and then to the tv and it was having the problem you speak of. After I switched out the hd box for a newer one everthing worked fine.
