The water will not drain on my first edition wma 10 hotpoint washing machine so does not spin either any clues to where the filter is???????

Remove the lower rear panel of washer.
Locate and remove the large black hose fastened to bottom of drum.
Remove and clean plastic filter inside the hose, reassmble and test for leaks.
Have some cloths ready to mop up any water that may appear..

Sounds like there is too much water left in the drum as it goes into the spin cycle, and the centrifugal force of the drum spinning is forcing the wate past the door seal probably, needs the filter cleaning, or the door seal itself may require replacing.

Sounds like a blocked filter to me.
Remove lower rear panel of washer, remove large black hose fastened to bottom of drum, remove and clean filter inside hose, check pump for blockage at same time. You probably will not need to replace any parts

Had the same problem. Removed the kick plate at front and unscrewed filter. In the filter recess I found a cotton wool bud. Appeared to have stopped the blade like fan spinning which appears to push the water into the drain hose. Works perfectly now.

inside hose at back ,take back lower panel off black hose filter inside.

if the model starts with wm then you should set the timer knob just before a spin setting and it will empty out.

if the model starts with wma,few or wf then you will have to hold in the start button as this will cancel the current cycle and should start to drain.

first off norah, you will need to check the pump filter as there is probably a blockage in there.

secondly guest, sounds like a faulty pressure switch or even a small hole in the pressure pipe, thats why your machine will not stop filling.

If you're washer is working (water in-coming, then agitiating, but does not drain/spin at the "spin cycle"; the typical problem is either the door/safety switch or the electric water pump (belt drive machines). I would test the door switch for continuity; replace as necessary.

please check the outlet hose of the detergent drawer. it could be clogged with soap.

I am not familiar with this machine's model, but in most of the machines the filter is located under the panel in the bottom of the machine (the panel under the front door). You should pull the panel out and you will find the filter there. Before openning the filter prepare a bowl and a floor cloth to avoid water's flooding. Good luck!
