Washing machine Repair

Washing machine is impossible to balance. It is so unbalanced that it regularly walks across the floor.

Yes, I have the same problem with 2004 Maytag SAV515DEWW. The machine stays in one place until it is in the final spin cycle. Then, no matter how much I rearrange the contents, the washer starts knocking, squeaking and moving across the floor. After a few time of moving, then the cold water feed starts leaking also.

It does not matter which cycle or speed settings I use.

I have checked the balance with a level and it seems to be okay. I cannot wiggle the machine with my hand with or without wet clothes in it. The floor seems to be stable with no weak spots.

    Any suggestions?

I've got the same problem. We've had this machine for almost 4 years. It just started doing this about a month ago. Since we have 3 kids its been on pretty much daily, im thinking the springs are stretched. Before I tear into this thing what do you think?

Maytag washing machine walks across floor during spin cycle

Did you set the back feet before leveling? On most units to set and lock the back feet you need to pull the top towards you so that the back is raised off the floor, then set it down again, this will release the feet and lock then down. The you level the two front feet. After this is done you must make sure your load is balanced. Distribute the items as evenly as you can in the tub. Once it gets to the spin cycle if its walking or shaking a lot, stop it and redistribute the items more evenly in the tub. Also try not to overload the unit or combining many heavy items with few light ones. If this is a new machine, did you remove the shipping locks from the back before using it? They have plastic strips attached to them, make sure they have all been removed, as well as any shipping bolts.

Maytag fabric matic washer started walking across floor on spin cycle?

Usually an unbalanced load, but check if rubber feet are worn through.

Washer walks across floor on spin cycle and my level says its level

If the level is registering the machine as level, then you probably have an unbalanced load that is causing it to "walk." When it starts walking, lift the lid, wait until the spinning stops and redistribute the articles in the basket. I hope this helps. My front load washer "walks across the tile floor", it is level, what can I do

A washing machine may wiggle, rattle or move across the floor. It is often accompanied by excessive, or loud noise. There can be several causes and the problem is worse with some units more than others. The most common cause is an unbalanced wash load. Open the lid/door, and attempt to redistribute the clothing to balance the weight. Heavy loads, especially things like comforters, are more likely to become unbalanced than small loads. If you do a lot of heavy loads, you should consider a heavy duty/large capacity washer when it comes time to replace your current unit. A washer must be level both from side to side as well as from front to back. Washing machines have adjustable feet to enable you to level them. See your manual on how to level your washing machine. The outer tub/basket, is supported by springs, pistons or counterweights to keep it balanced. The weight of all that water in a wash load requires a powerful balancing mechanism. If the balancing system becomes detached from one or more points, it will not be able to balance the load properly. Furthermore, even if everything appears to be in place, as the appliance ages, the springs or pistons/shock absorbers, may begin to wear out and not support as much weigh as needed.

Unplug the washer and open the cabinet. Because of the variety of balancing mechanisms, you will have to inspect your machine to determine how it is balanced. Once you discover the mechanism, then inspect it for integrity. In the case of old parts that appear to be in working order, you may not be able to tell if they need to be replaced. They may be weak but appear to be in good condition. If no other solution resolves the problem, then replacing the balancing springs or other moving support parts may be the best action.Another common cause for excessive movement, or clunking, is the floor on which the washer rests. The washer is heavy and even more so when filled with water. Any floor, other than a concrete slab, will tend to pick up and amplify the vibrations from the machine. There are a couple things you can try. If you have access to the joists under the floor, you may be able to beef up the support. Another thing to try is placing a large sheet of plywood under the washer. It should be 3/4" or even 1" thick and as large as possible to distribute the weight. Use a sheet big enough for both the washer and dryer to sit on. If possible fasten the plywood to the existing floor.

NOTE_ Verify That the shipping system including shipping bolts, spacers and cables are removed. This is a common issue when a new washer is istalled.

My PAVT920AWW won't spin hard enough to get all the water out

I have had teh same problem. I calledin the Maytag service and they did replace something out of goodwill but the technician told me that the load balance sensor is sensitive. If your load is unbalanced then the machine will spin slowly so it does not walk across the floor. With larger loads the wieght will make the machine bang against the sides and walk.

The solution is quite simple. Make sure the load is balanced. The agitator has a way of unbalancing a load from time to time so you need to do this manually. It is a very rare occurance and it is best to make sure your load goes into the machine balanced first.
