HI, i would advise to test the lid switch, if there are no grinding noises during the spin attempt. A defective lid switch will affect the spin/agitator cycle, dramatically.

The lid switch ensures that the lid is closed before enabling the machine to spin or agitate.

Aside from electrical problems, the switch may suffer from a mechanical problem. The lid may have a striker which depresses the switch when the lid is closed. Make sure the striker is functioning and aligned with the hole over the switch, properly. Inspect the switch and make sure the metal strip is not bent out of position (if present). If your switch uses a mercury switch, make sure the mercury envelops the internal contacts when it is in the closed lid position. Your switch may differ, so inspect it for proper operation before proceeding to the electrical testing.

There are two primary types of lid switches. One type on which you can directly test the terminals on the switch and another style where you have to test it at the wiring harness. In either case the method for testing the switch is the same. If a wiring harness is used, separate the two pieces of the harness and test the side of the harness that connects to the switch.

Test the switch for continuity using a multimeter. Set the multimeter to the ohms setting X1. Place a probe on each terminal. The multimeter should display a reading of infinity. Depress the button on the lid switch and the reading should change from a reading of infinity to roughly zero. If it does not pass both of these tests, the switch should be replaced.

Some lid switches also have a fuse, you can visually inspect the fuse or test it for continuity with a multimeter. If the fuse is bad, replace it with one of the same type.

NOTE_ If the lid switch is ok, this will lead to a failed control sector. The control sector can be a timer, or control board. Replace the control sector if the lid switch is ok, and operational.

Whilpool

Open the machine up by removing the 2 screws either on the front or real left and right of the control panel ends, flip the control panel up and back, unplug the lid switch plug, using a flat blade screwdriver remove each steel squiggle clip on the left and right, open the lid and gently pull forward the entire cabinet assy from the opening, unclip the drain pump on the front and remove the pump, re position the the cabinet in palce and reconnect the lid switch and see if the machine will spin, if so you most likely have something stuck in your pump, if not you may have a jammed gear case. Scenario 2: if the unit motor is running but no spin or wash you may have a broken drive union that connects the motor to the transmission. Pleazer Appliance...

Frigidaire FWT647GHSO when it gets to rinse first rinse cycle, it doesn't stop filling with water. It won't agitate or spin. It works well in the wash cycle, agitates and spins and advances

probably you've got something blocking the water pump from doing its job properly so check that the water pump is free running emptying all the water if not then there is a blockage in the pump normally ist a button, paper clip or other debris out of a trouser pocket eric

Goes thru agitate cycle then stops - no drain of water, no spin. Control dial does not advance but manual advance also not result in drain or spin. Position of dial on agitate area results in agitation.

If the drain pump is not operating correctly, the cycle will not continue. Also, sometimes the pump has something jammed in it, and may just need to be unclogged.

Old model rca washer machine...will not agitate/wash the clothes, does spin.

If the washer fills up with water and you hear the motor running but the agitator doesn’t move, the agitator coupling is the most likely problem. First pump the water out by turning the timer to spin. Once the water is out, turn the washer off. Now pull up on the agitator until it comes off (it may be hard to pull off). Now that the agitator is off, you can see the agitator coupling, reach down and try to turn the coupling. If the coupling turns freely, it is striped out and needs to be replaced.

Doesn't agitate

Place the unit in the spin cycle and see if it will pump the water out and if it will spin. (This makes the motor, transmission and pump run in the opposite direction.)
