If you get the "Operating System Not Found" meessage, it is caused by the hard drive having failed to locate the files to start your computer. You NEED the disk you got with your computer, then with that disk in the drive, start your computer. If it fails to go to the DVD drive hold down the F12 key at startup. Select the drive as your boot device. Whewn the restore screen comes up make the appropriate selection and you should be up and running.

How do I reinstall the Operating System on my computer?
Select models, with Microsoft Windows, have the ability to have the Operating System reinstalled from a hidden partition built into the computer.
Note: During the process, all data stored on your computer will be overwritten. This means all your files, such as email and photos, will be erased. Therefore, we recommend making a backup of all personal data before starting the recovery process.

To start the system recovery:

  1. Restart the computer.
  2. When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the Alt and F10 keys repeatedly.
  3. If you are prompted with a Microsoft Windows boot screen, press the Enter key.
  4. After the system recovery application has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the Operating System.
If the ability to reinstall from the previous method is not available or fails, recovery of the Operating System will need to be from Recovery Media. If you do not have a set of Acer Recovery Media, you may purchase the set online from the Acer Recovery Media Order Form.
Note: If your computer does not have an internal optical disc drive, an external optical disc drive will be required in order to recover the Operating System using Acer Recovery Media.
  1. Restart the computer.
  2. When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the F12 key repeatedly to enter the computer's Boot Menu.
  3. Press the CD-ROM drive eject button and insert the disc labeled System CD.
  4. Close the CD-ROM tray.
  5. Refer to on screen instructions to select either CDROM or USB CDROM.
  6. The computer will boot from the Acer Recovery Media
  7. When prompted for the Recovery CD, remove the System CD and insert the Recovery CD.
Note: If there are multiple Recovery CDs, please insert the first of the Recovery CDs.
  8. After the system recovery application has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the Operating System.
Note: if your computer is unable to run the Acer Recovery process, or errors occur during recovery, please contact Acer support.

How do i reset my acer laptop back to factory settings

What Acer model do you have? Are you running Win7? Most Acer notebooks have a hidden partition on the C: drive where the operating system is located. The following information can be found at the Acer support website:

I get the error message operating system not found and cannot boot from dvd rom drive

This message is usually indicative of a HDD failure. Open the access door and make sure the HDD is properly connected. In rare cases the HDD is fine and the interface controller has failed.

Keep getting the following message when I turn on my Acer Aspire 5050 laptop: PXE-E61: Media test faulire, check cable PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM Operating System not found

PXE bootup means the computer does not boot up from an operating system installed on a hard disk drive. PXE bootup uses a server on a network to boot up the computer.

It will not start without being connected the network that it was programmed to run on

Computer problem, help.

This generally indicates a hard drive crash/failure, in which the hard drive will need to be replaced. Rare, but occasionally you will get this error from an operating system glitch. Before you run out and buy a new hard drive, try reloading the operating system. If you have any problems during or after the install, then the hard drive is shot.
