Subwoofer I am having trouble setting up my speaker settings to have the subwoofer work. I have been through the manual many times. The front mains, rear left and right and center channel work fine. I think the problem is with me not understanding the yamaha speaker set-up, and I am not a novice, The subwoofer operates fine ( I have used the same amplifier with two home theate systems with no problems, currently it is operating fine with a sony str-dg00 receiver)  Can you help!

I to have this problem .. did you solve it? Because I'v been on it for hours now trying to hook up my new SVS PC12 NDS.. before I used different subwoofer where I had to hook it up with spekaer cables and that worked, but with the SVS there are only a single RCA to be connected with.

When go into test mode my main speakers, front left and right work, but it comes out nothing from my SVS.. I'm starting to think it might be broken. If you kow then please let me how you did.

    Regards

    Hi!

If you found out what the problem was I sure like to know what it was because I just can't get it to work. There is a testsignal going to the SVS PC12 nds but there is no sound. If connect the RCA in and out off the reciever the subwoofer makes a sound, it's not borken I just bought it. Before I used speaker cables to connect my subwoofer on my old one, the SVS does only have RCA..

When I go to Basic set up I set the speakers to front lef and right + subwoofer but when on exit from set up the subwoofer dissapears and only front speakers are left. There are no SAVE button so don't know what to do.. clueless..

Hi,

Hmmm, I think your Yamaha RXV640 does not have a sub woofer amp, it has a line level low pass output that needs to go to a separate/dedicated sub amp before going to a subwoofer.

Good luck and kind regards.

  • Anonymous Jan 17, 2008

    and Hi again,

If you are already using a subwoofer with its own built-in or dedicated amp, pls be reminded that the cutoff is 90Hz, the subwoofer output jack will only push out audio 90 & below.

Settings wise, guess no harm in double check. In Setup:
    Subwoofer - YES
    NO LRG
SWFR or BOTH but not MAIN
SWFR balance works on the MAIN Left and the SUB out

A question pls... have you tried plugging in the sub amp's RCA cable to the Yamaha sub out after the RXV640 has already been powered on? If yes was there a thumping sound on the sub?

With its moderate price, and loads of features, the RX-V640 represents an excellent value .

5.1 Channel Speaker Placement Front Center Channel Speaker: Place the Front Center Channel Speaker directly in front of the listening area, either above or below the television, video display, or projection screen. Subwoofer: Place the Subwoofer to the left or right of the television. Left and Right Main/Front Speakers: Place the Left and Right Main/Front speakers equidistant from the Front Center Channel speaker, about a 30 degree angle from the center channel. Left and Right Surround Speakers: Place the Left and Right Surround Speakers to the left and right side, just to the side or slightly behind the listening position - about 90-110 degrees from the center channel.
These speakers can be elevated above the listener.
6.1 Channel Speaker Placement The Front Center and Left/Right Main speakers and Subwoofer are the same as in a 5.1 Channel configuration. Left and Right Surround Speakers: Place the Left and Right Surround Speakers to the left and right side of the listening position, in line with or slightly behind the listening position - about 90-110 degrees from the center. These speakers can be elevated above the listener. Rear Center Channel Speaker: Directly behind the listening position, in line with the Front Center speaker - May be elevated. 7.1 Channel Speaker Placement The Front Center and Left/Right Main speakers and Subwoofer are the same as a 5.1 or 6.1 Channel set up. Left and Right Surround Speakers: Place the Left and Right Surround Speakers to the left and right side of the listening position, in line with or slightly behind the listening position - about 90-110 degrees from the center. These speakers can be elevated above the listener. Rear/Back Surround Speakers Place the Rear/Back Surround Speakers behind the listening position - slightly to the left and right (may be elevated above listener) - at about 140-150 degrees from the front center channel speaker. Rear/Back channel surround speakers can be elevated above the listening position. For actual visual examples of 5.1, 6.1, and 7.1 channel surround sound speaker set-ups, check out the diagrams from Dolby Labs NOTE: To aid in your speaker setup, take advantage of the built-in Test Tone Generator that is available in many Home Theater Receivers to set your sound levels. All Speakers should be able to output at the same volume level. A inexpensive Sound Meter can also help with this task. NOTE: The above setup description is a basic overview on what to expect when hooking speakers up to your home theater system. The set up may vary depending on how

Just play around with output quality 5.1 , 7.1 . You see different types of sorroud sound will be configured differently.
2.0 will only be 2 speakers, 5.1 5 7.1 7 and so forth. its just a matter of sellecting the correct audio format.

No surround sound on rear speakers and cant access speaker set up functions. left front channel not working when rears set up without surround

from the problem description, it sounds like a wiring/setup problem with the speakers. check to make sure you are only using the main 'a' front r & l speaker connectors. if you select speaker set a + b on the front, you will not have the rear channels. please see the speaker connection guidelines in the manual on page 13-15. make sure the audessey mike and/or headphones are not plugged in when trying to use the speaker set up function.

Head unit connect

You will only be able to use this EQ on the front or the rear speakers. You will have to get another EQ if you think you need one. Usually, the front speakers of a car's audio system are the smallest and the rears are larger. You really do not want an EQ on the subs. If it was mine, I would hook the EQ between the head unit and the rear speakers. If you feel this does not sound right, you may need, but I doubt it very much, to get another EQ for the front speakers. Good Luck

How do I hook up a powered subwoofer to a pioneer sx-316?

Many subwoofers accept both line level (RCA jacks) and amplified inputs (+ and - speaker terminals). The Pioneer SX-316 does not offer line level output, only amplified outputs via the PURPLE + and - speaker terminals. This means that in order to use any subwoofer with an SX-316, the sub woofer will need to accept a + and - speaker wire connections for input Your manual speaker connections are on page 11 of the manual which can be found here: http://www.manualslib.com/manual/260358/Pioneer-Sx-316-S.html#manual

Starting at the rear of the SX-316; run a speaker wire from the PURPLE + and - terminal (SUBWOOFER) to the + and - speaker input terminals on the subwoofer. See your subwoofer manual or experiment (at your own risk) with connecting the speaker wire from the SX-316 to the subwoofer's + and - LEFT only, RIGHT only or BOTH left and right speaker inputs. Do not connect wires from the SX-316 to the speaker OUTPUT terminals of your subwoofer.

Finally, adjust any variable low pass filter knob or setting on the subwoofer to the lowest frequency that your main speakers are capable of producing. If you're not sure what that value is, try setting the subwoofer to 100Hz and judge how it blends with the main speakers. If it seems a little too bass heavy and thick then reduce the setting to 80Hz. On the other hand, if the sound seems to be slightly thin and lacking weight, try increasing the setting to 120Hz. By careful listening and a bit of patience you will be able to get the sound to seem balanced and well blended.

Good luck!

How to set up surround sound

Not sure what you are looking for

But if 5 speaker setup have your front left and right speakers on the appropriate side of the television, your center speaker in the middle of the tv, Either mounted on the wall or underneath or on the shelf, try to have the center speaker set back from the front speakers. Subwoofer usually I mount behind the entertainment center. Your rear right and left speakers optimum position is behind you on the left and right.

If its a 7 speaker setup everything is the same except side right and left speakers go in the middle somewhere between the right and left front and rear speakers

I will make a example the the cursors [] Speaker *TV
LF[] CT and TV*[] RF[] []Subwoofer behind tv
SL[] []SR
LR[] RR[]

Hopefully that helps

I have Denon AVR-2310...but lost operating manual ! In audio set up, more specifically speaker configuration, a choice is given between " FTE", and "FTE +main". What is the...

The manual... http://www.retrevo.com/support/Denon-AVR-2310CI-Receivers-manual/id/23452bh638/t/2/

I'm pretty sure you mean "LFE + Main".

You need to identify the speakers to the receiver as Large or Small regarding their bass-handling capacity more than their actual size.

"LFE" removes the possibly overloading bass in a given speaker channel containing 'small' speakers and sends it to the subwoofer.

"LFE + Main" is sort of explained on page 29 "Bass Setting". The intent of LFE+Main is to task your subwoofer with the bass that ALSO exists on all other speaker channels regardless of their ability to handle it all by themselves. As you can imagine, this might make the subwoofer respond to sonic events that are actually supposed to be directional from, say, the rear channel(s). In that case the event might seem to come from wherever the sub is located instead of the intended direction; or at the very least it might seem to come from both places which is probably not what the sound engineers intended when they recorded the piece.

Having full-range speakers 360-degrees around PLUS a subwoofer, I don't subscribe to the 'bass-is-non-directional' school of thought. If you've ever felt the concussion from and subconsciously glanced toward one of the speakers after, say, a huge explosion, the system is working.

How do i connect my klh bassbite V subwoofer to my sony receiver model str de335?

http://www.docs.sony.com/release/STRDE335.PDF

I am basing hookup on my Bassbite !! manual. The procedure should be the same as on your Bassbite V

I have given you a link to your Sony Owner manual. It looks like you will connect your sub to the sub output on the rear of your reciever using the rca cable. Woofer out on the Sony to the R/Mono input on your Bassbite. If you have the front and rear speakers hook your rears into the rear speaker outputs then connect your front speakers to the front speaker outputs of your Sony. Your speaker jacks on the Bassbite will not be used for this configuration.

Now, adjust your speaker size setting for "SMALL" or "LARGE" speakers as appropriate for your setup (this is for the front and rear speakers and will not effect your Bassbite). Now set your Sony subwoofer output to "ON" You access this setting through your menu. That should be located on your remote for the Sony. You will want to refer to the manual to find the exact method to access your system menu.

If the link to your manual doesn't work for you then go to http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=STRDE335 and click on Operating instructions.

Hope this helps. Let me know okay? By the way, if this works for you you should be very pleased with the sound quality :-)

Kindly, DAVID (sean1dave)

Can't get the subwoofer to work when the fronts are set LARGE?

The manual implies that 'subwoofer=Yes' is independent of the rest of the speaker settings, but that it would be set AFTER selecting the other speaker configuration from the list of 11 possibilities.

The subwoofer is not working on our Bose 5.1 surround speakers.

First of all you should never indicate speakers as Large unless they can produce below 20Hz (which is very low), otherwise always set your speakers to Small.

Second, did you also indicate in teh setupmenu that you have a subwoofer? Because if all speakers are set to Large some receivers will omit a subwoofer because Large indicates the speakers can reproduce all sounds even below 20Hz.

So walk through your setup menu, say YES when the sub (SFW) is asked for and that should do the trick.

Sound from 3 channels only

Hi, first of all did you verify with the manual if it is possible to run a testsignal through all 5 channels?
One of the most common problems in this case is the basic settings of the device. If you don't have the manual, mostly you can download them from manufacturers website. Chances are that for some reason the setting is set 3.0 stereo (also known as 3channel sound) which is always the 2 fronts and the centre speaker.

Best thing to do it is take a DVD with THX on it and run the THX setup, it will send test signal to all channels.
