Water freezing in the bottom of freezer and leaking out on the floor from underneath

  • Anonymous Oct 29, 2009

We had a problem with the ice maker not making ice. We asked for assistance on this line and did what was suggested. We checked an opening at the top of the freezer and discovered it was frozen. We were able to defrost that and the ice maker started working. However, today there is water in the bottom of the freezer, which has frozen. I just checked solutions again and read that it might be that the defrost drain hole was frozen. However, I don't know where the defrost drain hole is located. Can someone help? It is a Kitchenaid side-by-side refrigerator.

Defrost drain hole plugged - probably with ice. Defrost fridge, verify that you don't have something like a green bean stuck in the drain line. A piece of uninsulated solid copper wire wrapped around the defrost heater and run down that hole about 1/2" past the opening - MAKE SURE IT DOESN'T TOUCH THE TUBING OR CABINET LINER will prevent future freeze-ups.

My Jenn-air refridgerator freezer section leaks water and builds up on bottom of freezer, defrosts then leaks out

sounds like you have a clogged defrost drain. when the unit self defrosts, the meltwater from the evaporator is supposed to go down a drain under evaporator, to a condensate pan underneath. when this drain gets clogged at any point, the water then drips into the freezer floor, freezes, eventually over fills the floor, and leaks onto kitchen floor. Do not try to snake out the drain, as it is plastic and usually not permanently attached, snaking can damage or dislodge the tubing, making problems worse. If you have a compressor, you can direct some compressed air into the drain to clear out any obstructions. Again, use caution against too much pressure, to avoid dislodging tube. Any reliable refrigerator repair service shouldnt charge much more than $100 to resolve this issue.

Water setteling on bottom of freezer side and freezing also leaking. 2 fridges both doing the same thing . leaking on the inside and freezing and underneath water is leaking.

Clean out the defrost drain. There is a drain in the freezer that lets all the defrost water run under the fridge. If that gets clogged then all the water runs into the freezer and can even leak onto the floor

Samsung Fridge Freezer leaking water

hi August.
Cause: A blocked defrost drain is one of the most common causes of water leakage. This happens when food particles or other debris clogs up the drain hose, which can lead to ice buildup and, eventually, water leaking out of the freezer and refrigerator.
3 common refrigerator problems you can easily fix yourself

The freezer drain hose will drain the defrost water into a drip pan at the bottom of the freezer. When this pan becomes full, it will leak water onto the floor. This is a regular maintenance task whenever the freezer defrosts. Empty the drip pan during the defrost cycle.
How to Fix Water Leaking From the Bottom of Freezer

Why is my fridge leaking water on the floor? If the refrigerator is leaking water it's possible that the refrigerator has a clogged or freezing defrost drain. If the defrost drain freezes the defrost water will overflow the drain and drip down to the bottom of the compartment, If enough water accumulates in the bottom it can run out onto the floor.

Water leaking underneath refrigerator/water freezing in bottom of freezer

I'm dealing with the same problem right now with the same refrigerator. The cold water tank (for the front dispenser) has a hole in it that leaks every time someone dispenses water from the front door. You will find the water tank behind the top slide-out drawer in the fridge. The leaked water flows down one of the water tubes through a hole in the bottom of the fridge and onto the floor. I'll bet you have the same problem. Good Luck.

Refrigerator

This is the most common thing on this site for refers. Its the drain line that takes water from the freezer when it defrosts to the pan underneath the appliance. You need to locate the drain line and remove the obstruction, sometimes its frozen so a short thaw may be helpful. The way I do it is I find the drain hose at the bottom of the fridge where it drains into the pan. I then connect a hose to it and blow compressed Co2 into the line. When there is no back pressure, I know its clear.

Water Pooling and freezing on floor of freezer

most likely you have a frozen drain in the freezer section so that whne your refrig defrosts the water runs out into the freezer compartment instead of the drain pan underneath. the fix is to flush the drain with warm water to clear the obstruction. the drain can be reached either by removing the cover in the freezer area or by back flushing the line from beneath the refrig.
