I have a Compaq Presario C300 laptop. When I turn it on, it shows the first screen (logo thing all computers show first at startup) but then it hits a black screen and simply... stays there. Even PC Recovery discs don't work... HELP!
How would I do that if I can't even start it up, or put a PC Recovery disc in?How would I do that if I can't even start it up, or put a PC Recovery disc in?

press F8 while starting up if you get screen select safe mode then if the computer starts; go to Start->All Programs->Accessories->system tools->System restore.
If works good, if not then call tech support. Also call tech support if computer not starting up in safe mode
Hit escape as you turn on the pc. Continue hitting the button until the startup screen shows. Also Try Hitting Contol alt delete all at once and hold down until startup screen shows. Be sure you have absolutley no usb ports being used during startup
1 - You may need to roll back system with System Restore. Under Safe Mode (press F8 during boot and choose safe mode). Win 7 - Start > Search type System Restore XP - Is Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Restore. Now choose a date prior to problem. You may have to try a few dates.
2 - Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig. Startup tab and uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when only you initiate.
Hi there,
do you still see the compaq logo and does it show you the windows boot up screen before it goes blank?
OR
do you see anything on the screen at all after pressing the power button?
Check if the laptop is receiving power. If it has power and you can't see anything on the screen it could mean that the LCD assembly or the Video card of your laptop is bad.
If it goes to the compaq screen and then to windows logo before going out, try booting into safe mode and once there uninstall the video driver from the device manager because that means the resolution was set to something higher than the display could handle.
If it restarts after showing the compaq screen try reseating the memory, hard drive and wireless card of your computer put them one by one and try turning the compter on after each part you put back to check which component is point of failure.
Otherwise you have a bad motherboard and it may have to be replaced.
Hope this helps!
try to look for drivers here, http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Lookup?h_lang=en&h_cc=us&cc=us&h_page=hpcom&lang=en&h_client=S-A-R163-1&h_query=compaq+presario+C300+laptop&submit.x=6&submit.y=7
Hello,
A password on boot is not set by default. The owner activates this option. If some prankster or michief maker has entered a password on boot on your computer without your knowing it, there is nothing you can do, save taking the machine to an HP Certified Service Center to have the password removed or reset.
As the password on boot is a deterrent against computer thefts, you might be asked to show proof of ownership. This certainly is the case with Toshiba laptops.
restart computer and before the XP Logo screen comes on, hit F8. select safe mode and then select Administrator at Welcome Screen open Control Panel and then select User Accounts. change/add user account. Remember to write password on paper.
