I just got the iphone 3GS and email that's deleted on the server still remains in my iphone email inbox. It didnt used to do this when I had iPhone 1st gen. How can I fix it so that when I delete an email on the server, it is removed from the iphone also?
I have 3 accounts, 2 of which go to my gmail account and my gmail account deletes them when they are checked. I looked to see if it was a gmail problem, but its not. Gmail is deleting them from the other servers, but alas, when the iPhone checks the accounts, it brings up the same emails that are no longer actually on the server.
That's strange. Except if you have the iPhone email settings set to POP instead of IMAP ...
Without knowing how much you have troubleshooted this already, I'll suggest making sure that IMAP is ENABLED on ALL your Gmail accounts and ALSO that IMAP is enabled on all your iPhone email accounts.
If IMAP is working properly you should stay in synch, no matter how you check or delete individual emails.
If you have IMAP enabled on one of the Gmail accounts, you can still access it via POP settings with the iPhone. If this is the setup, then when you delete an email on the server, it will not be synced when you check your mail on the iPhone, but instead you'll just retrieve any new mails that hadn't already been retrieved previously. However, if you delete a mail message on your iPhone in this scenario, it will not "return."
Good luck!
