There is no trick, just brute force. You will need to renew the chopping blade and the plastic sleeve it fits on to as both will be damaged and it will happen again, more easily each time. Your local Kitchen Aid service agent will have figured out a tool to get them off. My tool involves a chain shackled around the centre of the blade and the other end attached to my bench. I accelerate the motor unit away from the bench by hand and when the chain goes bang tight the blade comes off. No bowl damage that way. Similar method to remove motor sleeve with hole drilled through top of shaft sleeve for shackle.

My food processor is one of my most-used appliances. I just got a new Cuisinart (at Costco - with an extra workbowl!) and use it at least twice a week. I grate cheeses like cheddar or swiss, pulverize parmesan, make bread crumbs, hummus, pesto, salsa... I make pasta dough in it before rolling out in my Kitchenaid pasta attachment. Pie crusts come together in a flash. And it's great during the holidays for chopping nuts and certain cookie doughs. I've chopped my own beef for burgers, etc, etc. I keep it in a cabinet but it's easy to pull out whenever I need it. And there are only 2 of us at home.

By the way, the blades are so sharp in the new machine that I cut my finger trying to clear something from the blade. I'll use a spatula next time!

It is extremely difficult to chop walnuts in a food processor, because they turn to powder within a few seconds. I have chopped them using both a Cuisinart food processor and a Moulinex La Machine. The difficulty arises because even after you have released the on or chop button, the blade continues to spin for a second or two. The Cuisinart DLC-8S is not particularly well-suited for chopping nuts, because the blade is not reversible - there are many Cuisinarts that do have reversible blades - a particularly good one is the Cuisinart DLC-2A, which has both a reversible blade and a Chop function (retails for about $29.99 to 39.99 nowadays).

The only way to have any success whatsoever with the DLC-8S is to press the pulse button and release immediately - only use a small amount of walntus - and then dump the bowl and add a few more at a time.
