Kenmore s/s f/f; ice dispenser working; water dispenser not

Kenmore side by side fridge freezer with ice and water dispenser.

Appliance was turned off June 1 09 and turned on again Oct 1 09. We go away in the summer.
Ice dispenser is making and dispensing ice--so water is going in. Water dispenser is not working. I noticed in the spring--before it was turned off--that it sometimes "hesitated" before water came out. Any idea what the problem is (blocked dispenser tube? etc??) and can I fix the problem myself (female 68 yrs--good with "stuff")? Don't know how old applicance is it was in the home when we purchased it 6 years ago. Everything else about it is working just fine!!

Thank you in advance for your advice.

If you can't hear the solenoid on the water inlet valve(it's on the back where the water supply hooks up) when you try the water then the water switch on the dispenser is at fault.

If you do hear it Your water line could be frozen in the door. You can disconnect the line under the unit before it goes into the door at the bottom hinge. Push the dispenser button and see if it comes out there. If it doesleave the door open till it thaws.

If it doesn't come out there disconnect it at the water inlet valve and see if it comes out there.

Kenmore side-by-side not dispensing ice or water, the ice maker has been replaced, no water going into the tray. I cannot locate the water filter, does this model have one?

Don't know what is the model number of your fridge. 1.Need check electric water valve under the fridge. If that fridge made by GE (Kenmore just a Sears brand name and they use several others manufacturers for refrigeration), usually it's a frozen plastic water supply line inside freezer door. You could unplug fridge for 24 hours (you have to put food from freezer to other freezer).

556124 refrigerator. Ice/water disp. shorted out.

Your problem may be with the dispenser electronic control board. This is an issue that should be handled by an appliance service company.

Water dispenser inside fridge and ice maker in freezer part in bottom both quit working.

There can be many reasons for no water supply. Line feeding the refrigerator is clogged or blocked. The water control valve that turns water to ice maker and dispenser is defective or the water filter located inside your refrigerator is in need of change. I will be here to help you go through the steps. Let me know when you are ready, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Water and ice won't work on kenmore side by side fridge

I just resolved an issue with my kenmore elite side by side refrigerator icemaker (model 106).
It was expensive because I took the long road to fixing the unit myself.

My problem: No water going up to the freezer water dispenser into the icemaker but the water in front of the door working just fine.

-first thing i tried was the simplest. The Internet is clogged with this miracle fix of using a hair dryer to melt the frozen water line going to the dispenser output. This is highly unlikely for our model since the water line is protected within the refrigerator frame.

-2nd thing I replaced my water filter (thinking that there wasn't enough water pressure to trigger the solenoid valve. $40, and still no luck.

-3rd thing was I tested for voltage going to the solenoid. No voltage going to solenoid, so I wasted $30 for a new solenoid.....still no water.

-4th thing was I ordered a new IR sensor and receiver (since the reciever end is where the relay that sends the voltage to the solenoid to turn on and allow water to go up to the dispenser).
My IR sender and receiver appeared to be working flakey.
Installed, still no water. $58 BUCKS ON EBAY (EVERYWHERE ELSE $100+)

-I finally removed the freezer front little white door, I TURNED OFF THE FREEZER SWITCH SO NO VOLTAGE WAS PRESENT, removed the release latch underneath the freezer unit and disconnected, and removed the freezer unit to inspect it further.
When I removed the protective white cover that covers the mechanical wheel, I had a few parts come flying out of it. Turns out that the wheel accessories were damaged. THERE ARE NO REPAIRABLE PARTS ON THE FREEZER UNIT. I FOUND ONE ON EBAY FOR $39 BUCKS + $9 SHIPPING! $48 BUCKS, SWAPPED THE HARNESS AND BOTTOM COVER, AND IN 20 MINUTES, I WAS BACK IN BUSINESS. STARTED MAKING ICE IN ABOUT A HALF HOUR!!!!!

when in doubt, replace the freezer unit for $48 bucks! 7 out of 10 times it will fix your problems. All techs replace the IR set at the same time too which will set you back another $58 bucks.
Good luck! ;)

Kenmore Refrigerator stopped dispensing water

Either your water tank in the fridge froze up, the waterline that goes up the freezer door from the bottom hinge froze, or the switch that your glass hits is damaged. Do you hear any humming or noises when you put your glass up to get water?
