My kenmore refrigerator kept running.

Several days ago I noticed my kenmore refrigerator made some strange noise frequently. It lasts 4 to 5 seconds that it stopped. Today I took seriously and found this refrigerator kept running and running. That strange noise comes on and off in a couple of minutes. What's wrong with this refrigerator? I bought it 3 year ago from sears.

Is there some sort of reset switch for the frige? My power went out in my house and the frige stopped working after the breaker was switched back. The frige is on and air is coming out in the freezer but its not cold enough to keep anything frozen, and nothing is working with the top frige section.

It's not the relay, Your problem is either the evaporator motor or the condensor motor. Does it sound like a bird chirping or a high pitch grinding noise? If so move your refer out and get in back of it then pull your back panel at the bottom of the refer. and check and see if your fan is running. Whenever the condensor fan motor slows down or stops it causes the compressor to overheat causing it to come on and go off whenever the compressor gets too hot. If it is the evap. motor open the freezer door and check and see if you have a frost build up on the back panel. If so your evap. motor is bad and you will need to change it. Whenever your evap. motor slows or stops it causes your evaporator to ice up and freeze causing your refer to run all the time because the air flow is restricted. I hope this helps.

From your description it sounds like your hearing the start relay trying to start your compressor. most likely this relay is bad and needs replacing.

Why would a brand new fridge make strange noises already?

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand that your Frigidaire refrigerator, model# FFSS2614QS, is making a strange humming noise. Your new, high-efficiency refrigerator may introduce unfamiliar sounds. These sounds normally indicate your refrigerator is operating correctly. Some surfaces on floors, walls, and kitchen cabinets may make these sounds more noticeable. This could possibly be the compressor that you are hearing. Modern, high-efficiency compressors run much faster than in the past. The compressor may have a high-pitched hum or pulsating sound. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

Strange noise when doors are closed

Is it the Kenmore French Door model made by by LG?  I have the similar LG refrigerator since 2/2007 and have had several problems with it.  The sound you hear may be  a fan motor that is failing or freezing up.  The noise will stop when you open the doors because that shuts off the fan motors. In the last two years I have had the refrigerator fan, the air channel duct, the mother board, the ice maker fan, the ice maker duct and the mother board (again) replaced (under warranty, fortunately).  After the first service call I installed a power surge protector since a component on the mother board was fried.  I think the second mother board replacement was due to a software change related to the ice maker issue.  There is also a case related to LG Energy Star ratings (that includes the Kenmore made by LG) that you can register for that is supposed to make free modifications and an ongoing rebate payment for as long as you own the refrigerator.  I found an LG service manual PDF on line (search by model number) that has diagnostic codes and test procedures that is very helpful when I need to troubleshoot and communicate with the repair shop.

Amana AFD2535DEW freezer/refrigerator with intermittent tempurature swings

I had the same issue. It was the relay overload which essentially provides the extra boost to get the compressor going. The switch tries for about 10 seconds before giving up and then retries 3 - 4 minutes later. In the early stages of failure, eventually it will work and the compressor will kick on. But eventually the switch will fail and will just cycle through the 10 second attempt every 3 to 4 minutes. The part is about $35 - part number 67005560.

Freezer/Refrigerator tempurature swinging wildly

The compressor is overheating and not starting. Could be just the start relay. If this happens again try unplugging it for about an hour then it should work for a while. Heat between doors is normal this is an electric heater designed to keep the doors from sweating. You just noticed it because the refrigerator wasn't cold.
