I had the same problem until I physically pulled the DVD drive out of the laptop, turned on the laptop, and then inserted the drive to get the plug and play to recognize the DVD drive. Worked like a charm.

Just called sony to order the DVD rom for it. Price is $295 for the dvd rom. I think we will be better off by getting a new desktop or used lap top. SONY sucks big time.

Hello. I have Sony Vaio PCG-5426. And I can't reinstall windows on that machine. I have out CD-ROM "II FreeCom" and i try to reinstall with that. In BIOS menu I acces for first boot drive...

you shouldn't need to have to press f9 to boot from cd rom if you have it set in the bios as the first boot device , are you sure the copy of windows on cd that you have is bootable. Try booting from the disc on another laptop or pc and see if you can start it

Another option to try is to boot from a usb drive

instructions on how to do that are here

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=118576

once you have booted to usb you should be able to access the cd rom

depending on what version of windows you are trying to install you will need to run different programs.

you could also install vista or windows 7 to usb drive and install it from that, it is much quicker than installing from cd/dvd you would need to be able to boot from usb to start with though

how to install vista or windows 7 from usb instructions can be found here

My sony vaio laptop model pcg-k33 does not play any type of dvds. would you please let me know how I can fix it? Thank you for you help.

I see its a DVD ROM not writeer so should read DVDs. Maybe the country is not set correctly. Access this by clicking on My Computer / Right click on CD/DVD writer / properties /auto play select mixed content. Also check for country and ensure it is selected correctly.

NB = If you make a mistake in country selection and try to correct it you will write off the DVD drive and render it useless as this procedure re writes the chipset. can only be done once.

Need sound driver for sony vaio model PCG-Z1RGP

Not sure what operating system you are using, but a quick Google search came up with this:

Sony does not offer audio drivers for this computer.

?

However, they do offer this:

Problem/Question:

Err Msg: Cannot play back the audio stream: no audio hardware is available, or the hardware is not responding.

Solution/Answer:

Please check if there is any exclamation mark (!) displayed in Sound, video and game controllers under Device Manager. If there is any exclamation mark (!) in the Sound Driver Devices, please reinstall the sound driver with the steps below:

1. Start up the computer.
2. Insert the last disc of the set of Recovery CD-ROM into the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive.
3. Double-click My Computer and double-click the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive
4. Double-click the VAIO folder and search for the Audio folder in the Device folder.
5. Double-click the Audio folder and double-click Setup.exe
6. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the Sound Driver.
7. After the installation is completed, remove the Recovery CD-ROM from the drive and restart the computer.

* If the problem persists after reinstallation of the Sound Driver, please follow the steps below to check if there is any latest device driver upgrades:

In the Downloads section, please select Notebook and proceed with the steps below:
1. Move the cursor to the relevant Notebook Series and click the model of the VAIO computer.
2. Locate any latest Sound drivers and proceed as per instructions on the screen.

* If the problem persists after performing the device driver upgrade, please contact the local Sony VAIO Helpdesk. For more information on how to contact your local Sony VAIO Helpdesk, please refer to either Customer Service Guide or Warranty Card that comes with the computer, or visit the Support Network of the VAIO website.

Having a problem getting my Sony Vaio PCG-3E2L laptop to auto play my photo DVD slide show. Using Windows Vista Home Premium OS.Also, where can I find a PDF Sony User Manaul for my laptop?

A quick short cut is to open a browser if you use Internet Explorer and select tools menu, then select Internet options. When the box opens then select the advanced tab and scroll down until you see a check box under security and check allow active content from CD to run on my computer.

Why my [sony cd rw dvd rom] will not detect a blank dvd disk

If you have the sony CD RW DVD ROM then you can't burn the data in a blank DVD.

Because your Configuration is :
Read : CD / DVD
Write : CD

This means you have a combo drive. But to burn a DVD you should have DVD RW.

Assistance

well after reviewing your problem.

I'd suggest you take the cd to a pc where it works.
Then copy all the files from the disc to your harddrive

if you have a 1GB usb stick you can put the files there,
and install it on the laptop.
